I signed up so that I could review this add on. Not happy at all with dark background and happy to find a fix.

I was so aggravated when Firefox updated and changed the way linked images are displayed. I hunted up and down trying to find a setting to let me change the styling of the image viewer. There wasn't any information anywhere.
I happened to find this add-on after hunting around for a good while. This add-on does exactly what it's intended to, it displays images in a white background that is justified to the right like most every other browser out there.
This answered everything I was looking for. I have absolutely no complaints about this plug-in at all. If you're confused why images are centered with a black background and you want to get rid of it, download and install this add-on, you won't be sorry!

The dark gray background when using "View Image" was driving me crazy, this addon is the perfect and only solution I've found to bring back it back to white and now even centered.

I'm sure mozilla devs think it's a feature, but th eback background is nothing more than a problem. This is an awesome fix I wish that wasn't needed. The only good thing about the updated way single images are displayed in ff11, is the fact that they are centered.

This fixed not only how images are displayed, but images on a couple of sites I maintain. Like many others before me have stated I find the Firefox improvements to be anything but, and really appreciate your giving me back something I can live with.

Thank you for this addon. I was forced to upgrade my browser from Firefox 8 to 12 to use an addon update, and it screwed up the way my images are viewed.
I've been using the internet for over 15 years and stand-alone images have always appeared in the top left of the browser on a white background. I don't know what possessed Mozilla to change this behaviour now.

Big thank you for fixing the ignorance of Firefox developers! Works perfect.
Works with Seamonkey 2.9 if you know how to edit install.rdf : ).

is the best solution. Thanks!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
For some reason Firefox ignored my telling it to never auto update and did a "security" update changing the color behind images in the process.

I like the new look but becouse of your plugin people can choose which is always good thing. What I been missing is chessboard kind of background which makes easier to see alpha of image. Can you make chessboard option and/or custom background image option?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1-signed.1-signed).There's a review from ForkliftFred2K two weeks ago that mentions "Pic Style - Checkerboard" that does exactly that.
Bad news: it's not compatible with version 2.0. Good news: I essentially integrated it in 2.0, since all it took was a bit of extra CSS. If all you want is the checkerboard though, go with Pic Style.

i also made an account here just to give this add-on 5 stars. i was tearing my hair out in frustration trying to figure out a way to get the image viewer to look the way it used to. i didn't want centering and i didn't want a dark background, it just made all the images look wrong. thank you so much for making this.

I use Firefox 14 alpha. I can't stand the nearly black background but your addon is incompatible with my build.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1-signed.1-signed).It mostly is compatible. AMO should let you ignore the stated compatibility and try to install anyway (but I've bumped it up to 14.0a1 now).
The "mostly" is because of Bug 717143. Firefox's "resize image to fit the screen" now ignores the margins, and so ends up with the wrong image size. I've fixed that in 2.0, but I'm sitting on the update because I've seen Firefox crash with it when loading many images at once.
I'm working on trying to find some reliable steps to reproduce that crash, which will give me some hope of reporting a bug on it or avoiding it.

I registered here just to give this addon 5 stars. Mozilla needs to stop adding unnecessary "features" without any option to disable them. I have no less than 10 addons specifically to undo their monkeying and return the browser to some semblance of comfortable usability.

Works great, but only for the originally opened Seamonkey window and the window from which I installed it. Other windows show images centered on the ugly background, even if they are opened from the 1st window after this addon is installed.
I have not yet tried it after closing & restarting Seamonkey. With my workflow that may be a couple months from now.
Tried it on another computer and it seemed to work fine. (Still haven't restarted browser on this one.)
I managed to reproduce this, once, but I have no idea how I did it and couldn't do it again. A restart (or disabling and re-enabling the extension) may indeed help.
Do you have the DOM Inspector installed, and know how to use it? Could you verify that the windowtype attribute on the window is set to "navigator:browser"? (DOMi > File > Inspect Chrome Document > select a broken window > select the #main-window node > select "View > Object Viewer > DOM Node".) I can't see why it would be different, but it's _possible_ Seamonkey does something strange with the windowtype, and if it was different the window would get ignored.
There is a new version in the works that uses a different method of detecting images. That might work better once I get around to releasing it.

Add me to the ranks of people that have been long time FF users, but didn't have an account here... and then finally created one just to show appreciation for this add-on.
Like others, I'm baffled that someone felt the need to "fix" the default image only styling without allowing the end-user any options... In my personal opinion, it's pretty annoying that they decided to break it.
This add-on however, is a beautifully simple fix, allowing us to revert to the previously NOT broken view that we had. Also, the fact that it allows people to personalize the view based on their own preferences is outstanding. I've installed this add-on on all 3 computers that I use, and I'm very thankful it's available!

I often check site images in Firefox, because it displays its dimensions in the title. In my case just now I needed to know, if images have a black border... which I could not tell anymore, because the background was pretty much black itself. While 'centering' might 'look nice(r)', it sort of takes away a quick intuitive check for an actual image's size - esp. if it has transparent padding.
Agreeing with the recent commenters. This ridiculous obsession with higher
Versions and the need to literally 'bugfix' new undesired behaviour with add-ons is slightly getting out of hand. This add-on - too - made me finally sign up here.
So big thanks for this add-on.

It's wonderful how the internet can bring people together from all over the world to create a better internet browser. A shame that it only took 16 votes to add the "centred over dark background" image feature and all suggestions to add even the slightest control, like turning it off, fell on deaf ears.
It's surely democracy speaking when nearly 5300 people install an addon that removes this feature, or gives the slightest control over it. As someone else said before, I've signed up specifically to add myself to the 34 reviews that have made this addon fourth in the "Top Rated" list.
I had recently installed the "Pic Style - Checkerboard" addon to show images against a checkerboard to give a clear indication of their transparency. The "centred over dark background" update completely shoved that aside like a big bully so I was delighted to see that installing this fix really did fix everything. I was concerned that it would override the checkerboard as well but it didn't. Perfect! :)
The "centred over dark background" may look nice but if I'm just viewing an image, I want to know it.
