Bonjour,
Les différents éléments du mail traité (sujet, corps…) semblent être encodés en UTF-8, d’où des caractères inadéquats.

Exemple :
// *-------------------------------
les autres numéros de téléphone et adresses (dont mail) étant désormais caducs
// *-------------------------------

...sans qu’on puisse récupérer le texte original (caractères normalement accentués) ?
Merci

This is the best addon, but it doesn't work under 104.* version... :-(

Simple and effective.

Does what it says on the tin, Unfortunately only changes the name locally, not in the IMAP mail box. Hence only a 3* rating.

Is there a way to Edit Encrypted Subject and sync to IMAP Server?

Whenever I tried it makes connection timeout to the server.

Hi,
Maybe I missed something but I can't make this addon work right
- If the original header text is for instance "Re : test" (as a reply) and I want to change it into "New header" in the e-mail list, it will keep "Re : New header"
- If I then open the e-mail window, the original header will appear ("Re: test").

Is it because I use the POP configuration?

EDIT : I solved both issues by unchecking the option "local changes only". 5 stars for this addon

Great addon, however I experience the same thing as 'erricodavide' down below.

Quote-----

From this version on, when I edit a subject, the message gets appended with current date instead of its header date.
Thunderbird continues showing the correct date (the header one) and behaves accordingly, but Gmail app/webapp show the message as if it arrived at the time of subject editing process.
This discrepancy between TB and Gmail app/webapp makes your tool unusable for my purposes.

I genuinely think I'm not the only one facing this problem.
Also, updating TB to 78.8.1 doesn't solve the issue.

Any clue?

I am using TB91, so that doesn't solve it either. For now I had to uninstall the addon, but will be glad to use it, when this thing get fixed.

Hope that it will be soon!

Works just fine. I organize my emails by editing the subject line and really needed an add-on like this. The Header-lite editor no longer works this is a good replacement. Once in a while I have to right-click a second time on the email to get it to work, but otherwise its perfect. Thanks for the time it takes to code this. (Ubuntu Linux 20.04.2)

Even though this shows as "Enabled", I have to re-start it every time I start Thunderbird. By "re-start" it, I have to click on it to "disable" it and then click again to Enable it. It's a pain in the 'you-know-where'.

You may have guessed: this is not what other users experience. If you contact the developer, he can have a closer look.

Update: Five Stars!

Many thanks to John Bieling for pointing me to the Help resource that explains how to configure add-on options. Following those instructions, it was easy to change behaviour to IMAP-compatible. A couple tests showed Subject changes were quickly reflected in the server and visible when viewed from my cell phone or web browser (Firefox, of course!).

Maybe it would help others in the future if "About this Add-on" included the link to "How do I configure add-ons". Just sayin'...

Thanks again for your help. Sent donation a few minutes ago!

-----------------------

Does not work as advertised.

"About this Add-On" says:
Since 2.0 version in the options:
1- Changes are done into local TB messages database, not into the message (Subject from Header doesn't change).
2- Changes are stored directly into header, so it is IMAP compatible.

But I can't find any option to choose behaviour #1 (local DB) or behaviour #2 (IMAP compatible). Add-on seems to provide only behaviour #1 and no option to switch to IMAP-compatible option.

I guess I'll go back to Outlook until this function works well in Thunderbird.

Have you read the Thunderbird help on how to set add-on options? You should do that. It actually has THIS add-on as an example.

I specify, it works on 2 PCs, on mine where I have 3 accounts: on 2 yes, on 1 account that I just need, so no. interesting :)

I found this so useful. Many people "reply" to me without a relevant subject line. So I have no idea whats in it or which e-mail it is. This lets you "label" the e-mails you receive in the edited subject line. That is a huge productivity boon. For example, if you get receipt from Amazon, the subject line is a long cryptic number. You can replace the subject line with "printer paper" and you know exactly what it is.

Hi!

I've been using your tool in IMAP mode with Gmail for quite a long time and had no problems until updating to Thunderbird 78.7.1.

It's working...

Used this for years. It's the bomb. Yeah, we know the E short cut key doesn't work in latest version. It's free, and it works. And it allows me to do what I need to do with one extra right-click. It has never failed me so far, and I've even changed the subject line more than once even though I get the pop-up reminding me to worry somewhat. There was a big change introduced in Thunderbird's architecture and the author will get it fixed, I'm sure. Thank you very much for a great, working tool.

I'm giving this a "provisional" 5-star rating. The provisional status is because the E hotkey appears non-functional. I am in 78.6 and it does not work. I went to the developer's GitHub site and also see many complaints there regarding this issue. Please add a Hot Key! How about using Ctrl-H which was the one that worked fine on the Add On this is replacing, namely HeaderTools Lite?

On the good side, this Add On does just what it says it will. I was waiting to move toTBird 78 until I had a replacement for HeadTools Lite and this is it. I prefer running it with its default option of making only local changes disabled. That is easy to do with a click on the Add On page. I find this a necessary tool for TBird. I'm surprised it is native to the program.

Thank you for creating this Add On. I like it so much I have already made a contribution as the developer has asked.

Great addon. I only use the change header mode (imap), local db makes no sense for me.
But... if i change the subject it makes a copy of the email with the new subject. I have to delete the other one. This it not so nice, but better than nothing. (TB 78.5.1)

TB 78.5.0x64
If I edit a subject with "only local changes selected", all is well. But If I don't select this option an edited email disappears from the list of emails and can only be found by searching, after which if eg it is moved to another folder it reappears in the emails list

Just what I needed after the update to Thunderbird version 78.4. Thank you for updating it.
Unfortunately It appears that either I do not understand how the Hotkey "E" is supposed to work or it does not work. If I type "E" with a message highlighted nothing happens.
When I right click on a mail the menu appears, typing "E" with the menu open requires typing "E" twice since "E" is already assigned to "Edit as a new message".
Also I do not see the Options menu for this add-on in the Add-on Options sub menu.
