In principle a good tool. I've tried it with TB 3.0.3 together with Remove Duplicate Messages (Alternate) 0.3.4.
But I've got the problem that duplicates on an IMAP Server cannot be found. I think that it is related to the new feature of TB 3.x.x where for a search on a host the Flag "Run search on server" has to be marked. This might also influence the work of Remove Duplicate Messages (Alternate) .

The add-on worked as described by cleaning up duplicate emails in all of my folders. It took a bit as I was combining many backups into one account. It was quite an undertaking, but this add-on took the duplicates from 27K+ to just above 9K in total emails. I can't express how much effort this add-on saved me. What might have taken hours, if not days to clean up, this add-on did in about 25 minutes. I'd recommend the add-on to anyone needing assistance in cleaning up their email by removing duplicates...and the $5 contribution is well worth ever dime! Great job Eyal!

well it sounds good but I wanted to check for douplicates in my local inbox and my imap inbox which did not work :-(
At least not the way I've tried it, using the inbox smartfolder

Well I installed TB 3.0.3 hoping it would fix the repeated DL problems but it didn't. downloaded and installed this program and then tried to remove duplicates and it didn't even show up. Don't guess it will work with 3.0.3 I hate to admit it but I might have to regress to Outlook. I don't think TB can fix this problem or they would have already. TB is good if you have just one computer.

I may sound crazy with so many positive reviews, but I believe this add-on does not work and never worked properly (though I used it successfully to some extent) After failure to configure it to reasonable settings that will find duplicates (stripping options to Author, # of lines and subject field), I finally left only Author and subject. Well, it returned tons of results from different authors. This app was never tested even to provide bare minimum of functionality (i.e. selecting single option should yet return correct result) I don't understand why are you guys so excited about deleting (keeping first copy) of legitimate, non-duplicate emails? Unfortunately, I cannot provide screenshots here. Otherwise, it would be total embarrassment to this add-on.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.3).The selected options are the ones using which messages are compared. If you unchecked the 'Author' criterion, it means messages are only compared using other fields and the author may differ. Take the complement set of criteria and this will probably do what you want.

After contacting the author and getting an update for 'Deleted' (UK locale) I am now happy to use this extension.
I search on Message ID only and keep the largest at the review stage. Some size differences are trivial (eg extra header lines) but I have found that keeping anything other than the largest can result in the loss of attachments. It is not uncommon to receive two otherwise identical messages but with the attachment missing from one of them.
I use a pre-release version 0.3.4 from: www.mozdev.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=6300 which I have modified to remove "Set original message folder(s) for next duplicate search". Details at: www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=22447

it seems to work with 3.0.1, the only problem being the install.rdf lists a maxVersion of 3.0. Change the max version and it installed fine

It's IMPORTANT TO DEACTIVATE "size" criteria. Because it's funny but it seems that duplicates are not exact copies. This means that if you choose "size" this great extension won't find duplicates. But if you deactivate that option, it seems to work great! Thanks to kevbroch, I think the author should include this in the description or add something to the extension, to explain that issue... It's a great extension! Works fine on Thunderbird 3 portable under Windows 7 64 bits...

Works well! One thing I wanted to point out is I had messages that I thought were duplicates in every sense (checked all the criteria in this plugin), but I didn't find the duplicates I wanted to detect. When I turned off "size", I did and was surprised to see that these dup's I wanted to find were the same in every way except for the size was different by 8 bytes between them. This size difference is still a mystery to me, but I feel like size might never be a good criteria to check on.

I use V0.3.3 with Thunderbird 3.0 on a German win7(x64)pro-system. I installed the addon and started using it without any issues - no complaints, just the thing I always was looking for when I used MS Outlook Express. Thank you!!

Tried for a long time and it seemed not to work at all. Then I changed on the settings tab Message ID and sender only for identiciation of duplicates.
Now it seems to work, astonishingly quickly.

Worked well for me. I especially love the 'remove directly' option, which solved my being unable to delete duplicates because I was over quota.
If I may request anything it would be more visual feedback. When searching 30k IMAP messages I couldn't tell the difference between a hang and a running search.

I got this add-on to clean up duplicate messages coming in from Webmail, and the default settings work great to clean up these dupes.
Other times, I'll put the original emails and their forwarded/sent copies in the same folder, then change the criteria so I can find the dupes and select the copies I want to keep.
The ability to select so many different combinations of search criteria is very useful. Add to that, the fact that you can see the list of messages found and easily select which ones to keep, is a safeguard I appreciate.
The fact you have the option to move the dupes rather than delete them is another one of this add-ons built-in safeguards. Automation is great--but it can be a curse when it comes to deleting information. This add-on is well designed, and well thought out.
