Saved my ass so many times... Awesome and useful add-on, mainly when you work with up to 100 open tabs

I couldn't live without this add-on, it's very useful. It lets you save all your sessions (opened windows and tabs) so you can reopen them later, or reopen individual tabs or windows.
Also, the undo closed tab button is very handy.
Take a look at the options window so you don't miss any of its useful features.
The only thing that's missing could be Sync integration, so you could sync your saved sessions across different devices.

I am updating my prior review because it has appeared to have gone unnoticed, and the search filter is STILL WAY TOO LIMITED.
This wonderful extension works very well, but I think there is still room for improvement:
1) There is no way to search for multiple keywords (like all tabs containing THIS and THAT). Adding this alone would be a huge improvement.
2) The search field currently only filters the Sessions list. The search filter should filter the tabs listed under Windows and Tabs, as well as the Sessions list. Without this filtering of the lower frame, it is difficult to locate the desired tabs when a session had a lot of tabs.
3) There should be an option to have no tabs selected be the default.
4) The default should be to keep the window open for delete (as noted by another poster)
5) Right-clicking on a tab in the Window and Tab list should present a context menu allowing the location URL to be copied to the clipboard.
Hopefully, these suggestions will be incorporated in a future release. Thanks for a great extension.

Session Manager is a really great program; it's for all those people out there who are used to saving sessions in their favorite IDE or text editor and then wondering why their browser doesn't have the same functionality, considering the internet will always be larger than any programming project you might be working on.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of a "session" it's basically a way of saving which files, URLs what have you, that you previously had open at a particular point in time.
I find it works particularly well when using Tiddlywiki as Tiddlywiki has permalinks that allow you to open specific small pieces of information around a thought you may have had at some point, or on a particular topic. Session Manager enhances this functionality by allowing you to open multiple Tiddlywiki's has you may have had them open sometime ago when you needed to switch to a different task.
I really like Session Manager, but the interface is a little bit clunky, it would almost be easier if you could checkoff or select the open tabs themselves for storage in a new session instead of using the checkboxes to select pages based on their titles / windows.
But other than that GREAT WORK this is a VERY useful plugin for people research anything detailed on the internet.

This has been a standard add-on for me for years. The "undo closed tab" button you can add to the toolbar will alone save you lots of menu digging time.
Session Manager lets me browse without fearing that I'll loose things. The option to selectively not reload certain tabs when Firefox restarts also keeps things a bit more sane if you've opened far to many tabs or you just don't need tabs you'd opened the session before. The session history and ability to bookmark/save whole sessions is also a great way to keep your work/life organized.
Give it a try. You'll be glad you did.

Jederzeit.

Now I can save different tab groups and save the entire web browser session for work or just surfing the web and resume my session when I get back. It saves me a lot time instead of bookmarking one by one.

This brilliant plugin works as advertised. It's very configurable with lots of options but it also works great right out the box, with minimum of fiddling -- nice touch.
I like to have around 3 tab-groups open at any given time, with between 15 - 30 tabs in each group. Session Manager will keep track of your tabs, no more starting over from scratch with power failures. You can restore individual tabs and ignore the rest, restore all groups and tabs, or skip back to a previous session, whatever suits your need.
Can't recommend highly enough.

Some time ago I posted a 2-star review of Session Manager. I've always had it in mind to give this add-on another go, and just recently I finally had the time to dig into it. Here are some of my original comments, along with updates.
ORIG: First, and most important, it failed to successfully import my more-complex Tab Mix Plus sessions, making a transition all but impossible.
EDIT: This was originally a real show-stopper. But my TMP sessions seem to be importing much more cleanly now (FF19). I have a feeling that the session save in TMP and the session import in SM have both improved, and converged as far as compatibility. At any rate, my previous issues now seem to be resolved.
ORIG: Second, I found the add-on over-complex. I liked the powerful features, but was confused by things like the appearance of multiple copies of my current session in the list, even when I had deliberately disabled the option to allow multiple sessions with the same name.
EDIT: I'm not getting the double entries this time. Either I found the mystical setting that cleared this up, or something changed in SM. I do still get numbers in brackets after the name of each session - e.g. "(1/40)" - I'm guessing that this means the number of windows and tabs. I wish I could disable this, as it is of no use to me, and I'd much rather have a clean display of just session names. Not a big deal, though.
ORIG: Third, there REALLY needs to be a way to export sessions to some standard format. Back to TMP format. To stock Firefox format. Or, best of all, to sets of standard bookmarks representing each Panorama group.
EDIT: I'd still very much like to see a way of bookmarking complete sessions (this is something I do a lot, and would love to have automated), or to Save As CSV, or something. Maybe there's an option I haven't found yet... but as long as SM works reliably, I can wait.
ORIG: If I could find a way to actually move my heavy sessions into Session Manager, I'd up that to 3 stars (and become a regular user). That would leave 2 more stars for the other issues I've noted.
EDIT: Many months after writing my original review, I have now managed to get my sessions working. I've been using SM regularly for a couple of weeks with no issues. But I'm bumping my rating to 4 stars, for at least two reasons. First, I like the ability to quickly save over my current session, which I couldn't easily do in TMP. In SM, it takes one keypress and a double-click. (I have a feeling I can probably do it with a single keyboard shortcut, once I have time to figure it out.) Second, I very much appreciated the way my Firefox state was restored when my system crashed today. All tabs in place, all tab groups intact, all 'faviconized' tabs as I left them. Bravo! TMP tends to mess up my layout, in this kind of situation.
I'll hold back one star for the minor tweaks I'd still like to see. But in reality, I'm hovering around a 4.5. I still think the UI could be tidied up a bit, and documented better. (This is a very complex and powerful add-on, and I don't have unlimited time to scour forums.) But I've kept SM in mind since my first attempt, and it has ultimately won me over. Whether that was a learning process on my part, or an evolutionary process in the software, I can't say. I still wouldn't recommend SM for a total novice, but as a heavy Firefox user (168 tabs in my current session), I'm making it part of my core add-on set.

Let's start with that this is a great replacement for Firefox's build-in session restore that every now and then completely "forgets" the session....
In addition to that, I've got a bug to report:
Since today ESET Smart Security 5 sounds the alarm every time I open Firefox menu Extra (Tools-menu in the English version I believe) and place the mousepointer on the Session Manager menu.
The alarm/report message says it has blocked http://promorewardstoday.com/favicon.ico (81.17.23.34)
Any idea what's causing this?
edit: now it's a different IP address: 31.7.57.34

I've used this pluging for years and it is great. Lately though the menu doesn't seem to have "Save session.." anymore, which is a bit odd.
Edit: looks like this is a known issue... http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2308889

This extension is the best n its area.
Some suggestions for enhancing it:
* in session search feature, adding support to highlight the tabs found (within the session) containing search keywords.
* in session dialog box (load,save,..) add another column (currently only contains name, group, windows, tabs), named "date" for viewing and sorting sessions based on modified date.

This addon blocks the google translate widget in wordpress form working. The process of acquiring an account and finding where to post feedback is something that looks like secret code from linixville. Have you though about placing a prominent new post button in the feedback forum. So I am writing a review instead. The captchas to login are ridiculous. Overall, extremely poor experience. Has anyone out there thought about making any of this Firefox stuff user-friendly?

excellent extension, always in use :)
one thing i noticed in the last couple of days though (using latest FF 10 beta): session files are now huge (40-50 megs, before it was always up to 1 Mb),and this sort of error sometimes comes up (for example when trying to load old session)
This operation failed due to a file access error:
Component returned failure code: 0x8007000e (NS_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY) [nsIScriptableUnicodeConverter.convertToInputStream]
autosave.session
JS frame :: resource://sessionmanager/modules/session_manager.jsm :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 3954
not sure if it is FF, or maybe some other plugin i'm using conflicting with this?

I've been looking for you my whole life, Session Manager. You are the hottest thing since Firefox 4.0, and I can't get enough of you! You've saved my life on multiple occasions, and you allow me to completely forget about my past history, and only remember the best things in my life and never forget them. Thank you again for being there for me always, Session Manager. I think I love you. ;-)

Since installing Session Manager Firefox hasn't forgotten a singe session after exiting/crashing. Before it would constantly forget, getting to the point where I was about to stop using Firefox so once again it's up to the addons to make it worthwhile.

Russian translation (about this addon)
Tab Mix Plus.
