I can see this being useful.
Edit: On using the addon for a bit longer, I've decided to raise my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Kudos to the dev.
Thank you! :-)

Votre réponse me convient parfaitement.

Aah, I've been waiting for this so long!
It's rather great. The only thing I don't like is the unpleasant sound when changing the colour. How can I switch that off?
Currently the sound cannot be switched off - I will introduce an option to switch it off in the next version.
Edit 16.01.2021: Version 4.5.0 now has the option to switch off the sound.

I must state that I am revising my original estimate. Now my assessment is the most positive. This is due to the fact that after my feedback that the adon does not work, the developer contacted me. He offered several solutions to the problem and everything worked. This is a wonderful adon and I really liked the approach of the developer, many thanks to him.

Hi C-E,
Thanks for replying so quick! I appreciate.
2 issues :
(1) Didn't understand how to use the same thread and reply to u. So writing a new review
(2) I saw ur bug description under id :
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1681153
It says keyboard shortcut is currently unable to auto-click a thunderbird composer button. But, what if a way can be discovered or invented to use a new keyboard shortcut to invoke action #1 of the TextMarker extension? (assuming actions like action#1, action#2, etc exist for each thunderbird extension, and assuming action#1 of TextMarker extension highlights the selected text in current composer window with the current color)
Please reply
Thanks
Madhukiran
Unfortunately your assumption is not correct - there is no way to use a keyboard shortcut for the Mark button. We have to wait until the bug is fixed and a new Thunderbird version is released.

At first the message compose window was small so I did not see the "Mark" button. When I enlarged the window I saw it. Thank you very much for the most significant upgrade of the add-on in version 4.0 that allows you easily use different colors to mark email text and also delete text marking. Thank you very much as well for the significant update in version 4.1.6 . Thank you so much for your wonderful add-on.

Version 4.0: TOTALLY PERFECT!

Very useful add-on, I would say essential, extremely simple to use but filling an important gap of Thunderbird new versions . I have just installed it and tested on Thunderbird 78.5.1. x64 with Windows 10 20H2. It makes the highlighted text well visible also when receiving the email on my phone (Android 10 - Outlook and Gmail).
I saw no specific command to cancel an highlighting done; just an 'undo' however does the job.
New unmark function in version 3.0: hold "Shift" + click "Mark!"-Button to set background of the selection to white.

A very good attempt. Small issue: The highlighting height appears to be constant and is only correct for "normal" sized text. Perhaps add a button to increase or decrease the highlighting text height.
Thanks so much for creating this add-on.
Edit: Highlight height appears to be a Thunderbird HTML processing issue.
Changed my rating to 5 stars!
I just tried to mark text passages written with small fonts and big fonts - the highlighting seems to be okay.
Can you please send an e-mail to k-l-p@gmx.de with some examples/pictures?
(By the way, my Add-on only sets the background colour and has no influence on text height or highlighting height.)

Thank you for introducing this useful feature. Some suggestions for improvement :
- several highlighting colors (as said before)
- removal of highlighting
- contextual menu entries (if possible!)
- keyboard shortcuts
Thank you for your suggestions - first I will work on options page for colour choice and then let's see what I can implement ...
Edit 04.12.2020: new version with options page and many colours available.
Edit 07.12.2020: New unmark function in version 3.0: hold "Shift" + click "Mark!"-Button to set background of the selection to white.
Edit 13.12.2020: Quick colour change realised in version 4.0.

Thanks! I have missed the highlighter in earlier versions of TB. Works as intended (yellow highlight of selected text). Toolbar button is on the right of the compose window; customize to place on the left if that is your preference. An option to change the colour would be nice.
