TEMPORARY WORKAROUND FOR THUNDERBIRD 157

Until the developer releases an official update, Provider for Google Calendar can still work with Thunderbird 157 by changing the maximum supported Thunderbird version inside the installed extension.

This procedure is for Windows and assumes Provider for Google Calendar is ALREADY installed.

IMPORTANT:
- Close Thunderbird completely before modifying anything.
- Make a backup of the extension file before editing it.
- This is only a temporary workaround.

STEP 1 - Open your Thunderbird profile folder

1. Start Thunderbird.
2. Open the menu ☰ at the top right.
3. Go to:
Help > Troubleshooting Information
4. Find "Profile Folder".
5. Click "Open Folder".

A Windows Explorer window will open.

STEP 2 - Close Thunderbird

Completely close Thunderbird before continuing.

STEP 3 - Open the extensions folder

In the profile folder, open:

extensions

Inside you will see one or more files ending in:

.xpi

STEP 4 - Find the Provider for Google Calendar XPI file

The file name may not clearly say "Provider for Google Calendar".

If necessary, open the XPI files with 7-Zip and look at the manifest.json file until you find the correct extension.

STEP 5 - Make a backup

Copy the correct .xpi file somewhere safe before modifying it.

STEP 6 - Open the XPI with 7-Zip

1. Right-click the .xpi file.
2. Choose:
7-Zip > Open archive
3. Find:

manifest.json

You do NOT need to rename the XPI to ZIP or extract the whole extension.

STEP 7 - Edit manifest.json

Open manifest.json with a text editor such as Notepad.

Search for:

"strict_max_version": "156.*"

Change it to:

"strict_max_version": "157.*"

Do not change anything else.

Save the file.

STEP 8 - Save the modified file back into the XPI

If 7-Zip asks whether you want to update the archive, click YES.

Make sure manifest.json remains directly at the root of the XPI archive.

STEP 9 - Restart Thunderbird

Start Thunderbird again.

In my case, Thunderbird did not take the change into account immediately. I had to close and open Thunderbird a second time before the extension worked.

So if it still appears incompatible after the first restart, close Thunderbird completely and start it again once more.

That was enough for me, and Provider for Google Calendar then worked normally with Thunderbird 157.

This is only a temporary workaround until the developer releases an official update.
