This doesn't belong with the Firefox extensions--it doesn't work work with Firefox. It should be with the Thunderbird extensions.

It seemed to work for removing duplicates, but now I have a new message appearing in the inbox and in one of my folders everytime I go into it. It is an empty message with the date 1970-01-01 01:00
If I remove it i reappears when I go back to the inbox or the folder!
Don't use this crap!

Wonderful Add-on but doesn' t work with Thunderbird 3/Shredder.
Could developer update add-on with help of user Strim.
Strim - Could you please email me instruction what you have done or entire add-on. My email starts with koimark and then comes @-sign and then 'IKI' and then DOT and Finlands countrycode FI. I would appreciate that a lot.

Finally an update, thank you! This plugin works much better than the "alternative" one. It has some bugs already described here, but for me works fine ;-)

I thought I was a stupid optimist when I started looking for a plugin that deletes duplicate messages...and when I found this plugin, it worked better than I could ever imagine. Fantastic!

After 15 years of accumulation and imports from Outlook Express to Eudora to Thunderbird, I only had roughly 15,000 duplicates. Is that good?
THis extension did an excellent job of sorting, offering options, and blowing them away. It gave me total control over each step of the process and did the job. The only things I did thereafter were to empty and compress the trash folder, but this is a good safety net if someone has second thoughts after initiating the delete for some reason. About the only item that might use clarification is naming the darned download file to what the extension is, as presently it is something rather cryptic.

This plugin seems to use the client-side index when searching IMAP folders. If I have an IMAP folder that I have not opened in Thunderbird, this add-on will not search it :-(

This is great add-on! I'm using it more than 2 years, it's fast, simple and efficient. Many thanks to the author.
Unfortunately the add-on doesn't work with Shredder 3.0b, so I corrected it's JavaScript within XPI archive. The updated code works as fine for my Shredder as earlier for Thunderbird.
However, the author didn't reply on my suggestion to update the add-on. So, I have no idea how I can share the results with community not violating anyones rights. Any ideas?

I'd like to know how to have it automatically delete emails. I see in the options that there is a checkbox for it, but it does not seem to work....

Tested on an inbox with 24000 messages and about 90% of them duplicates, and it never finished and never put anything in the trash.

This extension is really useful but should be improved to send the duplicate mails automatically at the time of downloading itself. Though there is a provision to delete / move to trash by setting the value mail.server.default.dup_action in cofig editor to 1 or 2. It works fine but if we select the option of automatically delete ie set the value to 1 , then also it does not get deleted from server ( inspite of checking the option of remove from server when deleted). Similarly if we choose to move to trash option ie set the value to 2, the duplicate mails move to trash flawlessly but when deleted from there it doesn't get deleted from server. Interestingly if we move the such mails in trash to some other folder and then delete it gets deleted from server!!! I am sure this is a bug. I request some one who is more conversant with all this to check himself and report the bug. Meanwhile if the present add-in may also be improved to remove the messages as soon as they are received then also the problem will be solved.

Do not use this extension with IMAP when having many duplicates. It will crash your TB and MailServer as well. Go for the alternate version instead and use the permanently delete option. Works fine.
This version also seems not to find empty duplicate mails, the alternate version does!
