It would be WONDERFUL and VERY Useful to be able to read the first one or two lines of existing xnotes by simply mousing-over an xnote's icon. Such a feature would mean: No need to actually open an email message just to see the contents of a previously created xnote! What a Boon THAT would be. I'd pay for it!
Note: I've been using xnote for over a year, and the above is my ONLY complaint. XNote is very useful already, but I submit to you that the suggested change would make it GREAT! (It would be esp helpful for notes over a few months old.)
Version 2.3.4b1 allows to configure to show the first X characters in the XNote column. This should be a comparable feature. You have to install it from the beta channel until the final version 2.3.4 will be released.

Thank you for keeping this add-on updated. I wish I'd known before about the sandbox.
A good usable add-on that allows you to keep free-format notes with any email.

Using XNote on Thunderbird 3.1.5.XNotes is working, but causing Thunderbird to crash when I click Display Message Threads in the inbox view. I have tried this 4 or 5 times and it crashes every time. Has anyone else seen this behavior? If not for this fatal flaw, I would give it 5 stars because it is so useful.
Follow Up: Disabled add on, restarted TBird, enabled add on, restarteded TBird, and it works fine. This is a handy add on.
Using XNote 2.2.1 on Thunderbird 3.1.5 and cannot reproduce this issue.
Does Thunderbird still crash, if you uninstall all other add-ons? If no, XNote should not be the cause.
Does Thunderbird still crash, if you uninstall all add-ons? If yes, XNote should not be the cause.
This way you could iteratively try to find out which of the add-ons or which combination of add-ons causes the problem.
Can you reproduce the issue with a clean Thunderbird profile? (For this, create a new profile -- see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager -- copy the "Mail/Local_Folders/Inbox" file from your old Thunderbird profile to you new profile while Thunderbird is closed, and start up with the new Thunderbird profile.)
Please, don't post the answers (as well as bug reports) here. Rather send me an e-mail -- see http://www.froihofer.net/xnote/ for details. There is no possibility for discussion here.

Excellent add on - is there any way that it can be used on an imap system so all users of shared email accounts can see the notes? Thanks.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.2.1).In order to share your notes with other users (or access them by yourself on a different PC), you can store the notes on a shared network drive (WebDAV, Windows Share / Samba, NFS -- anything you can mount on your operating system) and configure the xnote.storage_path property accordingly. See http://www.froihofer.net/xnote/ for details.

I love this extension, thank you for porting it to TB3. :-)
For those of you who have unreadable white text on the yellow notes (e.g. due to a Thunderbird theme like PitchDark, which uses white font color), I figured out a fix.
Add the following to your userChrome.css file (in TB's profile folder (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird for info on that), there in the subfolder chrome - create file and folder if necessary):
/* Xnote - set text color to black */
.boite-de-texte, #titre
{
color: black !important;
}
This will set all text in the notes boxes to black.
Hope that helps.

Very useful extension!
Works fine for me and (with Version 2.2.1) improves communication on a shared e-mail system (like e.g. scalix) connected to thunderbird!

Works perfectly in TB 3.1. Replaces version 2.1, which won't work at all in TB 3.1.

I had used the beta version until I updated to TB 3.1. I I had just disabled Xnote but now I needed its functionality. I was afraid that I would loose my notes but phew, they are all there! This is great add-on!!!

Just created my first note and am very impressed, this will be useful and should be integrated into TB. One suggestion: the Tag color (when turned on) is bright yellow, which makes the tagged email listing hard to read, but using Config Editor to change the color results only in black. It won't accept a different color. Is there a fix?

This is an incredible useful extension.
Just ad some notes right to the mail they belong to.
The only thing it's missing is the possibility to sync the notes with other computers/clients.

works fine with tb3.1
open .xpi with winrar and edit install.rdf
and change the line maxversion to
maxVersion="3.1.*"

XNote as installed in TB 3.0.x WILL NOT survive an upgrade to TB 3.1. THE INSTALLER GIVES FAIR WARNING OF THIS and if you choose to continue, XNote WILL BE DISABLED!
I inquired with Lorenz Froihofer and he had this to report:
"Currently, I don't have the time to investigate this. Probably the extension works as is and just needs to be allowed to be used with TB 3.1. You could try that for a TB 3.1 test installation. The only thing you have to do in order to make XNote install on TB 3.1 is to extract the installation file with a ZIP-extractor, change the line "3.0.*" to "3.1.*" in install.rdf, ZIP it again, rename .zip to .xpi, install it, and see if everything works. If no, we need to upgrade the code."
I uninstalled the XNote running in my current TB 3.0.4 and then installed the extension modified as above. The update to TB 3.1 went smoothly without alerts and XNote works just fine!
Even though it worked for me, proceed at your own risk.

My accidental update to TBird 3.1 ruined me -- I can't get my notes back -- if ever an update was needed, this is the time!

LOVE IT - thanks for the port and improvements. +1 for horst39's suggestion: this is particularly apparent on dual monitors - if you have TB on the extended monitor a new note is created on the primary monitor, and new notes stay in the same absolute position on the screen when it would be good to have it relative to, say, the top left hand corner of the main Thunderbird window (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 Thunderbird/3.0.4, XNote 2.2.0-pre1)
