I look forward to the update of this add-on for T-78. Like yesterday - When I upgraded from 68 to 78 I wanted to revert to 68 right away - but profiles are no more compatible.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.1.0).G
Fear not , I will be upgrading . I just have to finish some other work on other extensions. Hold tight!
Thanks

Dude, love(d) this extension! Looking forward to your update. Cannot understand why this is not an integral part of Thunderbird (hope they are read these...). They should pay you for the work you've done and integrate it.

Thanks for the very nice review and comments!
Actually I am part of the Thunderbird team and the plan when I finally have time is for me to bring the functionality internally. I have to do a lot of rewriting and I would like first to try to get this 78 compatible.
Cheers

It was an amazing addon until this @!!$%$@ made the last update. Hope it will be updated too. Btw, thanks!

Thanks! Rest assured, I will be updating for 78, and I just have to circle around my other extensions first with their current issues. Look at the repository . every once in a while I will post progress.

Excellent!
I accidentally deleted my previous contacts address book.
Thank you SO much, this great plug in has allowed me to easily extract 900 emails from sent messages, which I can now back up and use.

Awesome, isn't it great to save our butts when we do "brilliant" things ;-)

First of all, thank you for this great add-on!
When I export a IMAP remote folder (in any formats: mbox, ecc.), replied and forwarded statuses of every emails are not saved (when I re-import the folder as a local one, blue and orange arrows are missing, and X-Mozilla-Status is set to 0001). I searched in the add-on github page (and over the Internet) but I couldn't find useful information about backing up IMAP replied and forwarded flags, so maybe there is something I'm missing.
Thank you again!

I read the installation instructions on your GitHub page to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong (it's hard to screw up installing an extension) but in the Thunrderbird Menu Bar under Tools there's no extra options after installing the extension. Nothing changes whether it's installed or not. If I have an old version of Thunderbird and the old version of this extension the extra menu options are there under Tools, but all import options are grayed out.
I'm running Thunderbird 68.10.0 (latest) and I have tried installing the extension direction from the Add-Ons store, and from the XPI file from GitHub—same results, there's no added menu options in the Tools menu.
On your GitHub page under Brief Usage Instructions there's a part that says "You may have to enable the Menu Bar from Preferences to make it display", but there's no 'preferences' menu option that I can find in Thunderbird.

This really is a question not a review.
Have you looked at the help that describes the menu options?
import options appear when you right-click on a folder that allows imports. typically local folders

Please help! I used the plugin to export my mails form a pop account, tried to import it to a imap account, but it only imports the sent folder, and not the inbox folder. The export inbox file is 1.3gb, so it's ok. I tried "import messages" and "import all messages - ...also from subdirectory" but it doesn't work. What else can i try?

I have been using Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail for years and love it. Unfortunately, like so many good things, MS abandoned it. To ensure security, I have been trying hard to switch to a new email client. I am NOT technical, and tried Outlook first, but did not like it, so I have been trying Thunderbird as I like the single row format with flexible columns. However, I have failed over and over again trying to import the large WLM message store. From I/O NG, I pick the "Import all messages from a directory - Also from its subdirectories." Every time, I only get empty folders. I also found it hard to delete all the imported empty folder under the Thunderbird subfolder I created - as I had to delete each empty folder separately. I have spent 6 hours, and still NO luck. SOS! May Day!

Thanks for the review . sorry for the issues.
I will do my best to help resolve the import issue, however, we need to do it in the repository issues support section.
Can you open this issue there and we will figure out what's going on.

Has always been helpful but latest edition seems to have removed the option of Exporting a single message as PDF. Actually there is no way to export a single message at all that I can find. I hope you bring that option back.
Updated: I tried the uninstall/reinstall and it worked! Changed the rating especially for the quick and much appreciated assistance.

This feature have not been removed so probably have to look at specifics. Can you open an issue in the repository so we can track this? If you can identify OS and Thunderbird versions . One thing that has been reported. some people needed to uninstall and reinstall the new version for reason unknown.

The perfect add-on that solves all IO needs for Thunderbird, whether you need to archive, migrate or turn thunderbird into a database for any other application. The big advantage is the fast and willing approach of Christopher, who has exemplary support. Definitely need to install :)

Hi Christopher! To me, this is the best and most usesful add-on to Thunderbird, coming from an Import Export tool I used for older versions of TB. I do have a question though for a feature I can't find. Now that I've backed up all my emails from one of my GMail accounts to TB using your add-on...how do I load them into my current GMail account? Sort of like a "copy to xxxx@gmail.com" function. Thanks in advance!

Hey!
Thanks for this amazing extension, found it after a lot of searching. If you don't mind I'd like to give you a feedback/suggestions.
1. I am using this add-on to import .eml files since I just have 250mb mail server capacity so I save the files from Thunderbird as .eml and view them in my local folder. Can I lock/permanently save the directory of a particular local folder to my directory from which I import the files? Like local folder TEST1 to directory C:/thunderbird/Test1, TEST2 to D:/thunderbird/Test2, etc.
2. When I add new eml files to my computer folder/directory as my mail server is about to get full, can the Thunderbird's local folder automatically fetch/sync those mails?
3. When I imported the mails initially via the add-on and then I did it again on the same local folder since I had added new eml files, I got duplicate files and it imported all the files again as the add-on could not distinguish between new and already added files.
4. Say I have 2000 mails in my computer folder, when I import the files to Thunderbird using the add-on, only say 1800 or 1900 mails/items are imported. Why is that? When I export the mails from Thunderbird they are more than when I import them.
I hope you understood my queries/suggestions. Again, it has solved a huge part of my problem but these few things would ease the process even further.

Nipun Nayar @ hotmail .com

Great program, doing the job that Mozilla themselves should have already done.
The only thing that I will say is I could not find the TOOLS menu for this anywhere, but it's a problem with these horrible new Thunderbird versions. The File/View/Tools/etc menu that you see when you click the main button in the top right is completely SEPARATE from the Menu that's accessed via clicking the ALT key. Really terrible design (not your fault). I suggest you put a message about this in the options window for this add on because I spent an incredibly long time looking for it.

An absolute masterpiece of programming! Months of suffering with failed and half-assed attempts swept away in the time it took to follow the self-explanatory instructions!
Tbird onWin7 16000 messages to Tbird on Linux Mint, Free at Last! Free at Last! Free at Last!
Tbird on Win7 did, however, remain unresponsive after profile export and Windows required rebooting - hey, it's Windows.

Sehr gutes, umfangreiches Backup-/Restore-Addon. Funktioniert in meinem deutschen TB 68.6.0 (fast immer) einwandfrei.

Thanks for the nice review!
I believe the issue you are seeing has to do with database updates that also affect UI. there are several issues with large imports that are also probably related. I have been working on them the background without luck yet!

I hoped to use this add-on to import profiles from Windows 7 T-bird 68.0 to LinuxMint 19.3 T-bird 68.4.1. Compatibility to T-bird 69.* is claimed. There is NO Import selection I can find in the Linux version. Neither could I find a bug report link so I'm making the problem known here.

Sorry for the confusion. Could you move this over to the repository where we can interact? That will help us solve your issue together:
https://github.com/thundernest/import-export-tools-ng/issues
Also just briefly, I have both users and myself using Mint with success . For importing profiles, the option under the main Tools menu at the bottom of the menu has the IET Menu. Just above options at the bottom are the import and export profile options. I was just running And looking at that on Mint

Excellent tool. I used it to migrate a complete Thunderbird profile (multiple POP3 and IMAP accounts as well as custom addressbooks) from Windows to Linux. This worked flawlessly!
