Very handly plugin. Found a little bug, but didn't find how to properly report it, so doing it here:Plugin does not search recipients in Sent folder, I changed one line and it works now:document.getElementById("qfb-qs-recipients").observes = "usb-qs-recipients";TOdocument.getElementById("qfb-qs-recipients").observes = "usb-qs-recipient";(removed s from usb-qs-recipients)TB 3.1.13, US 0.6.0, Windows 2000 SP4P.S. Sorry for newlines - apparently after editing system removes newlines :(
After uninstall/reinstall all seems to work fine. Yes, I upgraded recently FB to 3rd version and I was using Quick Folder before that.
Hi Marrtings,
Thanks for the info and bugfix, but I was unable to reproduce the problem, and I check out the code in the 'unifiedsearch.xul' file, the toolbarbutton element ID is 'usb-qs-recipients', with 's', because of this in 'unifiedsearch.js' file I reference to this name (whit 's'; the another 'usb-qs-recipient' doesn't exists!); Please, can you check if in your 'unifiedsearch.xul' file the 'id' attribute have the value 'usb-qs-recipient' or 'usb-qs-recipients'? Can you (previous backup of your modified extension files) reinstall last version and confirm the bug? I did my checks after download and install last version in AMO, to avoid differences between my local copies and public copies.
Maybe, your problem yet exists but have different source, like an 'out-of-sync' between Unified Search widget and Quick Filter toolbar (like happen to the user tanstaafl_bh).
UPDATED: I'm glad to know your problem is solved.
I set up an account at github.com where host this extension with source control and a simply issues-tracker: https://github.com/IagoSRL/TBX-Unified-Search/issues, if you have more problems, please report it there or at my email iagosrl@gmail.com or twitter.com/iagosrl

I really like this (on TB 3.1 so far) as I always confused the new global search with the one below.
I do really wish for a clear button (and possibly also a 'read/unread only'-button, as the current one is hidden in the QuickFilter bar and needs two clicks to activate, even if I stop using the quickfilter,
Hi sejtam,
I already have a version prepared to be uploaded that includes the clear button, I only need do some tests before publish it -specially on Thunderbird 5.0-; but remember, you can press 'Esc key' twice in current version to clear the search/filter text (first 'Esc key' pressed) and the filter options (second 'Esc key') quickly.
The 'read/unread only'-button (and other quick filter options) already are available under the widget 'options menu' (last button in the widget, or pressing the 'down key' when the focus is on the widget); this options menu have two visual modes: 'menu' (default) and 'bar'; 'menu' needs you click on it (or press 'down key') to see the options; 'bar' is showed auto when you enter on the widget (you can enabled clicking on the menu first option 'convert into a horizontal bar' and restore the menu mode clicking on the 'down arrow button' on the bar); I'm thinking to set 'bar' mode the default in newer versions; in both modes, if the options popup is opened you have shortcuts to quickly enable/disable filter options: Alt+U for toggle 'unread/read-only'. You don't need use quickfilter bar at all (mm.. only there are an option not available in Unified Search Widget: quick filter per specific tags, is on my 'to-do' list).

This is a great add-on, and a must-have for those of us who enjoy the vertical view. The built-in search filters become invisible in this mode, but this provides a nifty work-around that even improves the functionality of my searches!

This add-on does just what I was looking for! I needed the ability find and see in one place all emails that I had starred regardless of account, and by using the Unified Folders view, then selecting the "Star" Quick Filter, all of the emails showed up in one pane. This has made Thunderbird so much more useful!

Hi lagoSRL. With regards the option to clear the search bar...
'Mouse Click / Keyboard 'hot-keys'...very subjective and each to their own. IMHO I think providing mouse click options has a higher priority than keyboard hot-keys with 'the modern average user' in mind. So your point about not being intuitive is really the issue, not the preference. Personally I would really like to see the 'clear button' - just habit! Thanks though, it's very useful.

Much better than the TB 3.1 implementation
Bascally it puts the Quick Filter bar functionality up on the Mail Toolbar so it is always accessible without having to open it up or without it taking up more vertical screen space.

I have been hoping for improvements in TB's search function for quite a while. The is a significant improvement in search usability. THANK YOU!
A nice cosmetic improvement would be a searchbar that expands as you type, similar to the function of the Firefox extension "Searchbar Autosizer".
First, thanks for the feedback. The extension "Searchbar autosizer" seems good for Firefox but Thunderbird have a built-in autosizer behavior (different to that extension): when more icons are added to the toolbar, searchbox size decrease; when more space available, searchbox is bigger. I think this behavior is enough and works good, but if you know some cases in that this fail or is have problems please tell me!

Great first help for frustrated TB 2 lovers who dislike the new search stuff in 3.1. Thank you very much! Makes TB 3.1 at least usuable after all!
I just wonder if it would be possible to add an option to turn the global search box into the old quick search box, i.e., bring back the feature to select filters with a drop down menu from the search field itself,i.e., dismissing the search bar completely.
Because when it jumps in now it still takes a lot of space and this is not so good on small laptop screen (we disabled the tab bar for that reason).
Do you think this could be done as an additional option? I've no idea how difficult it is to write such an extension, so maybe I'm asking for sth. impossible...
Thanks Frank, I read your comments at bugzilla also about your experience with my extension, and your replies to another users trying to explain how 'Unified Search' works. I appreciate it (and specially because I express myself badly in English ;-)
Note that in release 0.4.3 I solved one bug commented at bugzilla: the global search box must be hidden if Thunderbird option 'Enable global search and indexing' is disabled plus Unified Search option 'Enable filtering from search box' is disabled too (this two features disabled means that search box is not needed), and two bugs more about persistent filters (more info in the release notes).
Currently, I don't want modify the current global search with more functionality (like the TB2-style drop-down list) for simplicity, and the 'Auto-show filter bar' option was an easy&quickly mode to allow use the extra filtering features (you can disable the 'auto-show' and open it manually only when needed) but I'm thinking in create another standalone 'box' in the toolbar like proposed in mockups of Bug 570815, with both global search and filtering features; and the 'standard' global search box and filter box&bar may be hidden. I think is the best solution.
Thanks for the feedback,
