A nice window and it works fine. There is no risk because it searches firs and asks to confirm later.

I have found this add on to be very reliable. I have noticed in upgrading from 0.3 to 0.3.1 it has missed some duplicates but as I looked it has just become more precise on what is a duplicate, I played with the settings and it is working great.

The Alternate certainly has very useful additional functionality and a much friendlier user interface. However, it does fall short on reliability and unlike the original from Thorsten Schmidt (which the author referrs to as zombie-ish) the Alternate can miss a lot (literally hundreds of duplicates) in larger accounts with thousands of messages and multiple folders.

In most cases people complain about the extension missing duplicates, closer inspection shows that the messages actually differ in some minor way which isn't checked by the other extension.

If you feel some dupes are missed, please open a bug on the mozdev bugzilla, post a folder with some missed-dupes, and we'll see...

I'm having the same problem as trishf42; after upgrading from 0.3 to 0.3.1 it's not detecting any of my messages as dupes. If I play around with the settings I can get it to detect some dupes, but not all; downgrading to 0.3

@Eyal,

Thank you for rewriting this extension Eyal so that all may enjoy the simplicity it affords us, and the time it saves keeping our email folders clean and uncluttered because of excess duplicates. This is a can't-live-without ext'n! A must have for anyone with any amount of emails.

For those of you who don't realize what Eyal has done here, and the gift given us, read the mozdev page http://removedupes.mozdev.org/ .

I too would like there to be an automatic deletion option. Is this hard to code? I would think an option to automatically delete emails is standard issue for an add-on like this.

It is not possible at this point in time to perform automatic removal of incoming dupes - the Mozilla API infrastructure does not allow this. Furthermore, even had it been possible, it would have been non-trivial in the least to do this effectively with respect to both time and memory space.

The plug-in works is fine. However, there are problems with localisation in Russian version 2.0.0.16. If to press on a folder the right button, the plug-in name is displayed, as " ".

The program works correctly and has helped me eliminate duplicates, especially after mail has been downloaded onto two computers and then is merged.
It did not eliminate duplicates in the merged Sent folder, which is by design. I reported it as a bug and within an hour Eyal told me to set a parameter (removedupes.allowed_special_folders) to have the Sent folder also scanned.

He deserves 5 stars plus 1 more for responsiveness.

Amazing add-on. Worked perfectly for me! In addition it lets you check which email it will delete or keep with a very simple user interface.
Suggestion: It would be great to be able to open the emails from that interface (in case you have doubts about which message to keep) or implementing a "twin" reading pane to compare messages before deleting... (just an idea. In any case the add-on works perfectly now)

If you click a message in the dupe review dialog, it comes up in the 3-pane window (the main Thunderbird window).

This worked after a few tries where the old extension failed: 24000+ messages where 90% were duplicates.

0.3 seems to work for me. Even found some message more than the original version. And finally I'm able to permanently delete the messages, Thx a lot!

Great extension, but this new update makes a ridiculously long right click context menu.

The phrasing is a bit awkward, but I couldn't find a way to make it both shorter and clearly understandable. I'll try to shorten it somehow.
