I have many signatures over three accounts, and I use this add-on all the time.

I am hoping for Tbird 7 compatibility, and holding off upgrading Tbird.

I read the FAQ and I understand why the developer doesn't want to make it possible to put the signature where so many of us want to put the signature. I want to put the signature there, too, but I do appreciate that the developer has his reasons for not wanting to do it.

Excellent... but not yet compatible with TB v7 :(

It is a great add-on, and I use it everyday.

However, after I upgrade TB to 6.0.2. I encounters one bug. When I forward an email, as soon as I type in the 2nd email address at the To/CC field, it cuts off the inline content of the original email (the thread below the immediate inline content is still there.). I concluded that it is the interaction between Signature Switch and TB 6.0.2 because this problem goes away if I turn off Signature Switch. This only happens for forwarding.

I wish that I did not upgrade to TB 6.0.2 (also does not like the fact that 6.0.2 changed some of short-cut key combinations, nor like their new default color theme). However, that's what I' stuck with. Hope there is a quick fix on the way. I can not find where to report bug, so I'm writing a review here.

Thanks.

I'm definitely not a coder...so i'm cluless as to what goes into making an add-on. Having said that, I do applaud the effort with signature swift, but have to agree with some of the negative comments. Please remember Achim, that most (i think..if not all) of us have migrated from MS outlook etc. and really want to stay with TB...but we've got used to the "creature comforts" of using a really flexible editor & signature tool. I had no less than 10 signatures in outlook (for different suppliers with varying accout#'s, as well as clients - some with a grahic). I too am accustomed to have my signature above the quote ..and didn't realize it wasn't possible with signature switch until i read the reviews. (I was/am still fighting to get my formatted signature in - without code stuff when i googled for info and came accross these reviews). I know some of the criticisms may seem ungrateful but its because we all want so badly to see TB really "fly" !

I'm running Thunderbird 3.1.13

Hi rboothe,

thanks for your comment.

Well... I'm fully aware that many users out there are migrating from M$ Outlook to Thunderbird.
And in general I'm glad to hear that. ;-)

But I really wonder why people tend to think that it's my "duty" to deliver an add-on that fills the gap to Outlook's feature-list or replicates the missing functionality to match Outlook's workflow.
That was and will never be my intention.

It's not like the extension is called "Outlook-like signatures for TB" or "_THE_ All-In-One Signature-Tool".
And I certainly didn't advertise for that.

I just try to offer a RFC-compliant signature add-on which addresses certain issues.
If it does the job for you... fine. If it doesn't... fine aswell.

Like I said a thousand times before: I never forced anyone to use my add-on... and I never charged a single dime for using it!

Constructive criticism is always welcome. Really. :-) But only if it concerns MY work and helps to improve things.

So please... don't blame me if Outlook had better signature handling and/or my extension doesn't deliver what Thunderbird initially should (in your opinion)!
But if you believe that giving a low(er) rating just because "Signature Switch" can't compete with Outlook in terms of (cite) "creature comforts" (/cite) is okay... well... then go ahead. :o)

Thanks,
Achim

Looks good but -

To all those who are wanting to put the text wherever they want: Try Quicktext. Right now only the beta version works with tb 5.0
I've use the previous versions for years, works great.

A "must have" extension. Simple to use and configure. The automatic selection by addressee or list works well.

Normally one star reviews should be for apps that completely do not work. Normally 2 stars should be for ones that barely work or are deeply flawed. This one does work- so why one star? I am freakin' mad! I spent way way way too much time trying to make signatures with this thing. It can't load images( it just displays a bunch of junk( the code)), it only displays simple text- heck I could do that without this!, it has no HTML editor, it has way too many geeky and difficult to understand menus, the site is supposed to give detailed instructions but it doesn't. If you weren't already an advanced user forget it! YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME!

The bottom line is maybe advanced users might get some tiny tiny advantage from using this but for all the aggravation involved it isn't worth it. It is my observation that there has yet to be a competent signature add-on that is worth using. I found it was MUCH easier just to do the following: I made my own signature using simple old Paint. I used a brush just like I was writing in cursive and wrote a signature, then I saved it and went back and made several versions with my email, phone #, a saying, with each,without... Then I made a signature folder in my pictures. Then when I want a signature I just insert the picture and center it. People who have seen it are raving about it and asking how the heck I did it! It was easy and a fraction of the hassle that ANY of the signature add-ons give us. Maybe someday someone will make one that works and is so simple that your grandma can run. Until they make it so you want "xyz" to display- click click- done! Until then don't waste your time with ANY of the signature apps!

Apollo!, thanks for your grateful review!

And thank you for appreciating all the work I put into this add-on trying to improve the Thunderbird-experience.
I'm sooo sad about the add-on not fulfilling every aspect of your needs. And I really hope that evaluating this piece of software didn't take away as much of your precious spare-time as it took for me to develop it.
Thank god you're warning all the other people out there!
I just wonder why there seem to be users that actually like this useless tool. Strange.

Please send me your PayPal-information so I can refund the price you paid for the add-on. Oh, wait... it came for free. Hmmmm.

I just can't wait 'til you release your own granny-proof signature-add-on which will relief us from our pain(t signatures) and include all features one could wish.
Oh,let me guess - you're no coder. So that's the ONLY reason why we won't see a "competent" signature-add-on from you. Otherwise you'd do way better than all these other people you mentioned. Right.

Well. Anyway. An unfair comment/rating still is better than none, I guess. :o)

Works well for what it is, a SINGLE end of letter Sig. switcher, but i need more flexibility to do more.

For me the same comment as the one from mgrey some months ago:
The add-on is a great idea. But your response in the FAQs to people (like me) who would really like the ability to put a signature ABOVE
the quote is a unsatisfying. If this request is not technically possible this would be fine - but then please say so.
I think we need to keep Thunderbird flexible - otherwise people will migrate back to Outlook.
5 stars for the add-on minus 3 stars for inflexibility meaning that, like others, I can't really use this add-on. Sorry.

Great! The only thing I really missed in TB. About complaints like 'the impossibility of placing signatures above quotes': Nonsense. The main thing is, people quote way too much... ;-)) No one is ever reading all those square miles of text. So drop it. And when it's necessary to keep the whole quote with signature above, you can always have a nice try with copy and paste. Thanks a lot for this one, brother...(Maybe some day I'll write some add-on thing wich removes the quotes before putting the signature above it. <Big Grin>.)

Could you add relative paths to images ? like <img src:"img.png" /> if img.png is in the same folder ? It would be great.

Thank you.

Great job, a feature-packed and strictly RFC-compliant extension.

From whati I've read in past reviews, this has never stressed enough: use another method if non-standard "signature" behavior is needed! (top quoting and signature before quoted text).
In those cases, "Clippings" extension does well; it allows placement of text particles selected among others (HTML supported too) with a keystroke.

Cheers,

Really would love to give 5 stars but the impossibility to place my signature above the quote (below my reply) makes this otherwise great extension useless for me.

Works as described, except there seems no way of specifying that the signature should come at the top, when you want to post a reply above the quoted text. This is a serious drawback for some users.

Nice, but didn't like some of the restrictions, like not placing the signature below the reply but above the quoted text, or placing the signature anywhere you want it to go. Since the FAQ says this is was deliberately done, I followed their recommendation and used a different add on instead of this. I used "Signature/Auto Paste/Prefill Forums 4.2" which works much better.

Pure productivity booster, Signature Switch FTW!

I have two business accounts, a personal mail account and have to write mails in English and German. Without Signature Switch, it would not be possible to fit all multilingual needs, mailing-lists and stuff. Thanks for this great addon!

I have my signature turned off for forwards and replies so it isn't in there a million times if the email goes back and forth. I do want to add it on a single reply or forward. This is exactly what this does and does it well.

Thanks

Wonderful add on! I was about to ask for the possibility to have the signature above the quote but after reading why it hasn't been implemented (http://mozext.achimonline.de/signatureswitch_faq.php#beforequotedtext) I fully agree with the developer. Great job!
