Uses a TON of disc space and slows down operation of browser. Otherwise, a great idea.

so this is an awesome add-on with one bug i found:
using Firefox 2.0.0.5 and latest version of speed dialer sometimes when opening firefox and then loading say, google.com.... all of a sudden i will hear music play from the websites i have configured in my speed dialer.
it is odd yes, because those websites are not open in any firefox windows anywhere...
but you know what? this add-on is probably the top 5 for firefox so i hope they fix this bug soon!

Great. I use it every day.

Overall, a decent add-on but I have had a few problems. Speed Dial keeps losing the dynamically generated icons for each web site in the displayed grid, so I manually created the icons and saved them on my hard drive. It worked for awhile, but now Speed Dial apparently cant find those either. The result is a bunch of blank boxes. Also, occasionally, Speed Dial doesnt seem to work. I click on the icon/box for a web site and nothing happens. I have to close and restart Firefox to solve the problem. I am going to try a different, functionally equivalent add-on instead.

Nice add-on but I didn't like the default keybindings. Alt-2 switched to the second tab whereas I wanted to enter a @ in a email-field of a form.
I'd prefer if add-ons do not add this kind of keyboard shortcuts, and in this case especially an add-on that do not explicitly handle tabbing. It took a while to find out what intercepted my keypresses.
Apart from this obvious doofus behavoiur it is a nice add-on.

I am amending my previous glowing review for an update:
I absolutely LOVE this addon, everything about it is just what I need...and the way it lets you have multiple pages of groups arranged is just brilliant for someone who uses the net so often and visits a million and one sites a day. however!
Lately I noticed that, in my windows XP, whenever I loaded up FF (version 3.0x) the 'working in the background' icon that you usually see for a second or so when starting a large application or something, was startiung to show up all the time when firefox was running.
I went through a long process of elimination to discover what exactly was causing this 'working in the background' icon to be there and so I started a fresh profile in FF and one by one, added my addons, then removed them if they didn't show the same symptom.
As soon as speed dial was added...you guessed it: The problem was there right away.
And sure enough, in my usual FF profile, if I disable speed dial in addons prefs then on restarting the problem is no longer there.
I do not have to have the speed dial page opened for this to happen either. I think that speed dial is refreshing its pages, images in the background. There is the occasional error in the error console but, nothing of consequence. Seems to me the addon is just being a bit to busy in the background and, as such, is causing this highly irritating behaviour. apart from the irritation of never really seeing the default cursor/pointer when I am in firefox, it also seems to have a progressive slow-down effect, making FF sluggish eventually.
If the addon is disabled, everything is fine and dandy.
I have disabled every thumbnail in the addons page, so that every shortcut I made is loading an image locally, from my hard drive, instead of speed dial ever having to go visit the sites itself. I thought this would stop the problem but no change.
PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS and maybe you can work it out my author cos' for the moment I am going to consider trying another addon like yours. I will admit right now though - yours is by FAR the best one in its class so please see if you can at least make it an optional thing, to let speed dial actually work in the background (I reckon it is visiting the sites for some reason when it is started as I seen the odd error in the error console for a site I wasnt visiting at the time and yet it was a site I have as a shortcut in spee dial - so that tells me speed dial is for some reason checking the sites in the shortcuts?)
Anyway I wil live in hope that you can maybe give us an option to disable all dynamic, updating behaviour for the thumbnails/shortcuts. that would do it!
Thanks.

My copy (0.7.1) have problem with loading previews - for one site creates preview, for the other ones no. Website in FF can be loaded, but in SD I see only white space...

Pour moi la meilleure extension de ce type, grâce à la modularité de cette dernière.

POS. Why call it the same as Opera when it's not? Doesn't even work or at least there are no instructions on how to get it to work. Like Opera, there should be a blank page and then you enter the URL and that becomes the speed dial.
Maybe that's why someone created Fast Dial for Firefox?

Fabulous add-on! I really liked the 'open in sidebar' option -- very useful. 5 Stars!!

This extension is really awesome. It has very useful and plenty options.
Since Firefox 3.0 has intelligent bookmarks like "most recent visited tagged bookmarks" (don't know if that is the exact name since I use a German Firefox) it would be really really neat if I could use this as a group for the extension.

Hi Joseph!
Thanks for adding the *organise group* option!
Can you make it possible to export as HTML or as URL's?
And/or
Make the speed-dial folder part of the FireFox bookmark hierarchy.
Reason: to make it possible to export to a web-base bookmark service.
Actually!! Would be awsome to have a SPEEDDIAL WEB SERVICE or an EXPORT to one of them!
Thanks!

But I too am having problems with the rendering of thumbnails (mostly images). In previous versions, the thumbnails would also 'obey' my stylish add-on so i would get google in blue (since that's how it appears when i go there). That is missing now.

I love this add-on! This along with NewsFox have allowed me to hide the Bookmarks Toolbar because all my RSS and main links are nicely tucked away, but still easily accessible. Speed Dial especially has allowed me to reclaim screen real estate, and I don't have to go clicking through the Bookmarks menu. I love all the options for changing things, too.

Works, but if you've got TabMixPlus (see above for the fix) it's largely redundant. I suppose if I had a massive amount of desktop real estate at my disposal it'd be a lot more useful, but I just can't see what's going on. It's a bit like having four mobile phone screens on your screen that you can use together at the same time. I can possibly see it being useful for copying and pasting content between a web page and a forum thread, for example.

Really great addon. Exactly as I like it: Highly customizable and highly flexible.
I'm coming from Opera, so I'm used to quite a good but not customizable Speed Dial and this is just what my heart needed to make me love Firefox.
