Works perfectly in Thunderbird 78.1.1 (64-bit). It's a great time saver and easy to use once you know where to set the options. There are so many criteria to choose from that makes this tool invaluable. I'm ecstatic that it has been updated so soon.

Does not work at all in TBird 68.11.0 (64 bit OSX). I selected the folder, right clicked and chose "Remove Duplicates". It is not that easy at all. I get the error "Not searching special folders" no matter what folder I choose. Don't know why people infer that others are dummies and it should work easily for everybody, like it did for them.

Works fine in TBird 68.10.0. Just select the folder, right click, and choose "Remove Duplicates". Doesn't get any easier. Don't know why people are having problems.

As BobBriscoe wrote, this modules does not work now for me.

So many reviews say they cannot work out how to use this addon because there's no documentation and it's not obvious. Me too. So, please, can someone who is using this successfully just spend a few minutes telling us how to use it? Surely that would make most of the (sometimes ungrateful) criticism go away.
One time, it worked for me (on Ubuntu 20.04 with TB 68.8.0). But only after I had found the config menu and deselected 'size' as a comparison criterion (having found this tip on the web). And only after I had given up then later found the output window in workspace #1 (I had launched the add-on from workspace #3).
But now, it seems to produce no output at all (I keep checking in all my workspaces). Does that mean that there's no duplicates, or that it isn't working? Please try to document this for someone who doesn't know what is meant to happen because they have never used it before.
Like others, I don't know the significance of the menu "Set original message folder(s) for next duplicate search". I suspect I'm meant to use this to select one folder, then right click on 'Remove Duplicates...' in any other folder (or the same folder). But, given the addon no longer gives me any output, I cannot test this theory.
The one time it worked, it was fast and useful...

(Installed on Thunderbird 68.5.0) (For anyone having trouble finding this add-on's USER INTERFACE: Open Thunderbird, choose "Tools" from the toolbar at the top, scroll down and hover over "Add-On Options", that will open a slide-out menu/list. From that menu/list, chick on "Remove Duplicate Messages (Alternate)", the user interface should open.)
UPDATED REVIEW: After reading ALL the reviews for recent versions of Thunderbird, stating that the add-on worked for them after unchecking "Size" in the Comparison Criteria (on the User Interface), I did the same, and it worked! After making that change, the program found over 200 duplicated email "sets", each email in a set showing the same To/From, identical Subject and Time Received (to the second), but the email sizes were different, some size differences being greater than others. Feeling a bit unsure, I double-checked the selections by going through several duplicated pairs, opening and reading them to be sure they were actually identical copies. Since 200+ duplicated sets (over 400 individual emails) were found, I certainly didn't go through all of them, but enough to feel comfortable deleting all but one copy from each duplicated set. As another precaution, I also changed the Default Action from "Delete Permanently" to "Move to Trash", just until I go from "feeling comfortable" to "feeling secure" that this dandy little add-on is choosing correctly. I've updated my original 1 star rating to 4 stars. I may come back later and up it again, to 5 stars, after I;ve used it awhile longer and feel sure that it is, indeed, performing reliably and accurately. In the meantime, I'm happy that it appears to be working as it should.....at the time of this update, anyway, *fingers crossed*.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Worked for less than a week, then quit working, the pop up saying there were no duplicates even though I was looking right at them. I really liked it for the few days it worked, got rid of alot of duplicates and freed up space on my computer. I'm hoping the bugs and problems get sorted out to make it a credible add-on for all versions of TB. For now, though, I'm giving a low rating due to unreliable performance.

Excellent!
Especially essential for before archiving & cleaning up a very full mailbox.
Could do with one or two more tweaks but it seems many people don't use the current ones properly (& so give it 2 *!)

Unfortunately this plugin freezes the Thunderbird's UI for a while then suddenly and silently crashes. It sounds like it's incompatible with the latest TB versions.
I'll wait for an update

Despite having what are obvious duplicate messages it just doesn't seem to find any

***** Correcting my previous review after getting help from Eyal.
I needed to uncheck the size check in the Addon Preferences. It appears that message size can change by the compaction algorithm or when copying messages.

Fonctionne de manière aléatoire!
Impossible de comprendre la raison qui le fait régulièrement et lamentablement échouer;
le message indiquant "aucun doublon n'a été trouvé", alors que des dizaines sont affichés à l'écran, est particulièrement agaçant
-dommage-

It worked perfect for me until the last update with Thunderbird 68.3.1, now it does not find any duplicates, even though there are a lot of duplicates

Most certainly not working properly for me. Finds some duplicates but not others?

NOT working. I added, restarted and went to tools to run this duplicate remover and it said NO duplicates found, even though I am staring right at them.

Doesn't work. Simply said "found no duplicates" upon clicking. Doubt it actually did much looking since my inbox is pretty huge. I dunno what it defines as "duplicates" but it said it didn't find any. Not useful to me.

TB 68.3.0 in macOS 10.13.6. Can't find the preference window in Tools/Add-on/Preferences.
The workaround is to use the config editor or add the Remove Duplicate button into the toolbar.

Thank you for developing this! I accidentally copied thousands of emails to an archive twice and was not looking forward to deleting them one-by-one. You saved me so much time.
