I recently had a hard drive failure and had to restore from factory backup. Fortunately I had recent password backup on an external data backup drive which easy restored all my passwords. I also have converted the exported .CSV file to .an Excel then to a password protected PDF file which I can access on my mobile device for those times when I need to access seldom used web site and need to look up a password. - Thanks

If it doesn't work as XML try CSV. Both seemed fine to me tho. Great app. I checked code too, looks legit as far as I can tell, but I'm not an expert. Uninstalled after use because I'm a conspiracy theorist.

One thing to be aware of is that the XML specs (1.0 and 1.1) prohibit "xml" as an element or attribute name. I'd rename it "export" or just have "entries" as your root.

Учитывая как Firefox чудит с сохранением паролей (в каждой новой ревизии перестаёт лиса видеть сохранённые пароли), Password Explorer позволяет сделать бекап и нормальный перенос в последующие релизы...

Yes, it creates a file and stores in windows but with .xml file extension...then the xml editor program comes up with a requirement to us "schema" which I have never heard of let alone how to use..these guys need to collaborate to create a simple "upgrade-like" setup that simple folks can use?

Great extension. CSV is unavailable on my Linux Mint sandbox (only XML is shown). And I guess it should ask for Master Password (if it is set) on every export or import attempt. Moreover would be gorgeous to have CLI version of this extension/utility to run scheduled backups!

It works exactly as described on Firefox. I wish I could have it on Seamonkey though as I am switching browsers.

Thanks Justin and Jorge - I was looking for a way to get my FF passwords into a new installation of Linux Mint (on a different computer), found this, and installed it on each. I exported the passwords as XML, obfuscated, directly to a flash drive, straight from the Options dialog immediately after installing, then imported them directly from the flash drive to the Linux machine. Couldn't have been easier. Tested it by going to a few sites where I have automatic logins, and it's worked perfectly AFAIK. Shame to uninstall it, but it's not something I need there all the time. However, it doesn't even require a restart, so it's no bother if I needed it again. I didn't want to use Sync and trust the cloud with passwords, and I didn't want to transfer my whole profile, just bits of it. The file on the flash drive can now be deleted, or even destroyed if I was paranoid about it being recovered. Using Firefox 42. Great work, thanks again. Now just need to do the same with my tabs and groups!

I cannot migrate password from M31 to M38...
Maybe I did sothing wrong, but simply exported with PWExporter 1.2.1 in .xml and when I try to import on M38 with version 1.3.1 it stays a loooooooooooong time on import window.
In addition I downloaded from git version 1.2.1 XPI file but I cannot install it on M31 because I receive the message that M31 is not supported...

No other addon export / import readable passwords... I like possibility to export / import own passwords in readable forms,
despite the fact that there are security risks.(It is my responsibility)
I hope that Password Exporter will be redesigned for Mozilla Electrolysis project ("e10s"). There is no substitute for Password Exporter and when newer FF stop support old addons, then password's can not be exported...

Сделать то, что нужно с помощью этого расширения всё-таки можно, но на вид всё сырое и недоделанное:
1. Пропали кнопки в окне "Настройки", теперь добраться до них можно только через страницу дополнений, кнопка Настройки на Password exporter

Great password exporter/importer. But one problem is that it will add "25" "26" to your password if you have a symbol "%" in your password. Glad I found that out in Notepad++ so managed to change them.

My review/comments on the missing button under Options > Security > Passwords (using no-tab options menu) was removed. Why? I have used this add-on for years and it's quite useful. But it has to work.
