Used to work with many email formats. Now, it only works with mbox and eml. Its more like a export add-on! Pity!
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (14.0.1).Mark
I really don't understand this review.
NO email import formats have been deprecated.
Can you please post an issue with what you think are missing.

I use this addon every year to archive my emails, but this year I cannot save the email in a folder and its sub folders unless it is a MBOX format, I have no idea what an mbox is, I only know html format. Any possibilities of bringing this function back? I can still save the individual sub folders one by one, but when we are talking about 300+ sub folders, my fingers go a bit numb after that.

Works ok, right clicking on local folders is the way to import an MBOX instead of though in add-ons main interface of import. Things like this make it useful but cumbersome to use. Would recommend though.

Kein Import der mbox Dateien möglich.
Nur Profil Import möglich, das nicht existiert.
Schlechte Anleitung.
ImportExportTools does have mbox import and export capabilities.
If you read the help (localized for all locales), there are descriptions for all of the context menus. Right click on a folder and it will give you these options.

Great extension. Only one problem I ran into was when I tried to export my archives folder using the "Export folder with subfolders (with structure)" option. What resulted was correctly structured, but the bulk of the subfolders didn't have the .sbd extension. In fact, they didn't have any extension at all, so I was unable to use them to put anything in.

Thanks for the nice review!
The sbd is the container folder for subfolders. All the files without an extension are mbox files with the actual messages.
I would certainly like to help if there is any confusion or problems.

Is it possible to include the "Size" column or other columns when exporting to "just index"?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (14.0.1).Thanks for the review!
Currently the fields exported are fixed. I think I know what you are asking for, however, some clarification is needed for this.

The addon works excellently for me -
thank you for your work.
I have a question for your extension:
It is possible to print or export Emails from thunderbird to pdf formate include Attachments?
That would be mean: Export
Email with Attachments into pdf file with Attachments WITHOUT CONVERSION OF ATTACHMENT FILES
like Outlook and Acrobat.

Thank you for the very nice review!
This is basically the top thing on my todo list. I am still recovering from the v14 release for Thunderbird v115 and then I will be working on this as a full rewrite of the pdf export with index and attachments.
Thanks for using ImportExportTools NG

Previously it was possible to do this from an open letter, but now only from a list of letters. This is terribly inconvenient, because you still have to open the letter to check whether it is the right letter or not. But this addition is very necessary for an email email client.
PS. I figured out why there was no save option in the context menu of the open letter. I always selected and copied part of the text of the letter to later rename the saved letter. Previously, when there was selected text in the body of a letter, there was such an item in the context menu (on the right mouse button), but now, if there is selected text, it is not there. You just need to deselect the text and the option to save the letter in the desired format from this add-on will appear. I recommend this supplement to everyone who needs to save e-mail.

When I tried to restore a complete profile from a previously exported one, it fails immediately with error "folder doesn't contain a valid profile". I have no idea how to resolve. IEtools NG V12.0.4, TBird 102.15.1 - it used to work flawlessly as a backup tool for single or multiple profiles.

Without doubt, for me this is the most useful Thunderbird add-on. I need to save important emails (legal, tax etc.) daily, and usually as PDFs, either for filing or printing, or both. I was very concerned that it wouldn't be ported over to 115, and I'd be stuck with an older version of Tbird forever, but Christopher Leidigh has done a first-class job in making it work with 115.

Always enjoy your id :-)
Thank you for the very positive, supportive review!
Updating for v115 was indeed a big lift and I am close to releasing the first maintenance version to round off some things and minor improvements. If you are interested you can grab here:
https://github.com/thunderbird/import-export-tools-ng/issues/466
Since you are a big PDFer, you may be interested that at some point I will enable ietng to use my Printingtools NG to get all the print layout enhancements it has.
Cheers

Really a question. Is ImportExportTools a utility to CLONE a Thunderbird implementation? That is, I'm looking for a secure way to save my entire TB implementation such that if all hell breaks loose on my system, I can easily restore it. That is, if I Export a package, can I later Import that package and completely restore my TB implementation? If such, it would be good to advertise that. I'll give a high rating assuming that's the case!

Thank you for the review!
Yes one of the many functions in IETNG is the Profile Export/Import which is the entire TB dataset. Just do it with the same main TB version.

I am trying to migrate a 12 Gb profile, but with no success. "An error occurred during profile import. Error details are: Exception... etc". I have the feeling that 99% of the profile is migrated, all 12Gb are in place and only the final step crashes for some reason.
PS: Issue is resolved with the help of cleidigh. Follow below Github issue to find the solution - detailed step-by-step guide.

I would very much like to help you resolve your import problem. The import code is new and I want to make it reliable for you and everyone. Could you please open an issue in Github where we can interactively work on this and I will do my best to find a resolution. Here is the link:

Imported 11GB of folder-structured emails into Thunderbird 115.3.3 without issues. It was only tricky to figure out how to find the import option's menu. I was about to open an issue, but saw that someone had the same problem, so maybe the help page could include a tip about this.

Thanks for the nice review.
11GB import, sweet!
I know there is never enough help. I thought the tables for each context menu was sufficient, but maybe some more general descriptions would help.

The tool is absolutely great and it helpend me already several times to restore lost mails.
Yesterday my Thunderbird mail was updated to the latest version and also the import export tools was updated. So I did a quick checl that everything is still OK. But I can no longer find the "export non local folder" option which is needed to backup my IMAP mails. Did I oversee something or where is this funtion gone?
Andreas
Appreciate the nice review!
In v14.0.0 I have completely rewritten the import export code.
Basically I removed the remote operation because both methods are the same. As long as you are synced an imap export will be good.

Super useful extension.
But I still have this suggestion for improvement to the extended file name format: How about a placeholder/macro for the respective email address of the other party could be built in, like:
${smart_email}
Wish you continued success!

I am not clear on this token suggestion.

I get about 10% errors - i.e. exporting an imap mail folder with 6000 mails, and after importing into an offline folder 650 did not come through properly, mostly date/sender/subject not recognised even though in the original mail folder they are displayed just fine. I can recognise the mails that went wrong by opening them and thus compare them to the original, but if they can't be listed by date/sender/subject they're as good as lost. I tried both exporting all mails from the folder in eml format, and exporting the folder. And I did so several times, always the same result. At such a failure rate the tool is useless for me. In the past is has worked, I use it once a year.
