I am not sure why others are complaining as, so far I am concerned, this does EXACTLY what it says it will do!

There is an entry in the Tools menu and as for it being "not worth the work", I suggest you go away and do better - then you might have the right to complain!!

Every developer works towards what he or she feels is the right solution and that may not tally exactly with what you want - that does not mean it is not worth it.

I am not a devloper but I am very grateful there are those that are and I think we should recognise that fact.

I just installed this to sort my numerous email accounts into an order of my preference (and not Thunderbird's). It does what it says on the tin, however, to the minor niggle:

The app does not create an entry in the Tools menu (TB v45.5) as advertised in the first line of the plugin's description. You can still get to it using its options from the Extensions menu though.

Five stars if the plugin allowed drag'n'drop re-ordering, either in the combined inbox, or in the account settings.

Also, I can't confirm the problem reported earlier. I can send and receive emails just fine.

This add-on would be great except for 2 annoyances - 1 minor and 1 major.
The minor - when I go into Manually Sort Folders Options, Sort Folders Tab; the selected account is always the last account in my list. It should default to the main (or first) account as this is usually the primary account. At least it is for me.
But the Major annoyance, and the reason I have removed it: I want to tweak the existing folder list, so when I change the Sort Option from "Use Thunderbird's Default" to "Use a manually defined sort" I do NOT want the folders to be completely resorted alphabetically. I want to start organizing from Thunderbird's default. As it is now I have to go through ALOT of work to rearrange the folders back to Thunderbirds default and then move the few folders I want to arrange differently. It's not worth the work.

Works like a charm (using it in FossaMail). Customize your accounts and folders order at will - never had issues with it.

I like the app, but like another reviewer, it interrupts mail. I disabled it and my mail came back and I can send again. I'm on a mac, el capitan, using Thunderbird 45.2.0

I added a Microsoft Exchange email account to Thunderbird and it will only sort the account to the bottom of the list or the top (if set as the default). I don't want this account in either position. Otherwise works as it is supposed to.

I used this before and it worked fine. It doesn't work for me now, at all. I even tried deleting and re-downloading. No good!

It works fin with the other email accounts, but does not seem to have an option to move the position of the Local folders. Which has migrated to the bottom of my list , ( was at the top before using this) Want to move it to the top its where all my mail is filtered into . Please add, great addon otherwise

Because each new email account is (by default) added to the bottom of the account list, my main interest was to move my accounts up and down in the list. I've done this many times before by editing the underlying XML file which is a tedious process - first locating the profile, then carefully manipulating a large XML file ensuring that nothing gets misplaced....

This plugin works perfectly. Install and select "Tools/Manually sort folders". The first tab in the subsequent dialog allows one to move the accounts around. Exactly what I wanted!

It won't put my RSS folder in the proper place I specify. It shows it correctly in the add-on settings but in the Thunderbird side panel RSS folders are always at the bottom and can't be moved.

If this could be fixed I'd definitely give it 5 stars.

I installed it, it worked perfectly to what it was installed for, that is, to sort the folders and accounts in Thunderbird.
BUT...
The problem is that since then the accounts do not download any messages anymore. All of them. Even those which were not moved. Thunderbird informs (in Portuguese) that it wasn't possible to connect to the IMAP server because of exceeding the maximum number of connections to the server.
Maybe although moving the accounts positions, it does not move the necessary references. Anyway, as I am not a programmer at all, this oppinion might just be BS.
But now I am left with a big problem.

Does anyone know this issue, and is there a solution?

*Day after: I removed it and tried it again. Didn't work. I restarted the computer. Ditto. I reinstalled Manually Sort Folders. Also didn't work. Then I was tired and switched it off to try to find a solution today. The idea was to sort the folders to the previous position and give it up. But it wasn't necessary! Today it started working! (???) Now it deserves the 5 stars, as actually it works very well.

Initially, I had the same experience as MCShults, as the "Manually Sort Folders" entry does not appear on my Thunderbird's "Tools" menu after installation and restart. I was finally able to access it by going beyond the initial menu, to Add-ons>Extensions, where I was able to select "Options" and sort my folders. Works well. Thank you!

Installed it. Nothing happened. No clue as to how to make anything happen. Can't drag and drop folders. Can't find any other way to reorder folders. No clues in documentation as to a hotkey or where to find a menu. Right clicked everywhere, looked in options. Nothing, nada, zilch.

The addon listing features, in bold, as the first sentence in the description "This extension adds a "Manually Sort Folders" entry in the "Tools" menu of Thunderbird.".

Furthermore, if you use the standard procedure (Tools > Add-ons), you'll find that the addon's preferences button also opens the right dialog.

Thunderbird always lists folders in alphabetical order (a mistake to enforce it IMO) and this is sometimes not what you want . This allows folders to appear as YOU choose, not thunderbird.

As others have said, it's quite bizarre that TB doesn't include this feature as part of the core.

However, if they now added it, they couldn't do it any better than this addon.

Great work

An amazing little add-on that does what it says and does it well. Adds a much needed feature to Thunderbird. Dev was helpful and quick response to initial installation problem I had which was actually my own fault. Add-on installs well and I highly recommend it.

I'm not able to contribute via Paypal. I have the same problem as written by Pheckphul in the Mozilla forum. ( https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/t/cant-contribute-to-an-add-on-developer/5786 )
