Using quickfilters-3.4.2-sm+tb in Thunderbird 38.8.0, Windows 8.1 64bits

If I right click a message which is in a local folder : "QuickFilters : create filter from message..."
I get an error : "Tried to create a filter 7 times, but didn't work out [and more text]"

Drag and drop gives the same error message.

(note : in Account Setting - Server Settings - Advanced : inbox is set to Local Folders, for all my accounts)

Any known conflict with some extension ?
(I have about 30 of them, if needed I could provide the list)

Edit :
most issues are already solved by the developper in the pre-release of this AddOn.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.4.2).

Please can you go the official bug site here:

38 is rather old as well, I am currently testing with v60. The 2016 ESR version was 45, the current one is 52, see also:

There is an annoying little message poping-up on the bottom-right corner of the screen, just above taskbar, near the hour. It appears each time one selects a message in thunderbird and change its label color priority (0 important, 1 work, 2 personal, 3 to do, 4 wait).

It say's "quick filters applies filters on the selected message".

This is a new and, sorry, seemingly boring and inconvenient feature.

Please, wouldn't it be possible to remove it ? That would be nice and great, at least to my undestanding, and from my point of view.

it can be by xnote++, 4 other users reported it at http://quickfilters.mozdev.org/bugs.html

I fixed it yesterday and the fixed version is here:
https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=26457#c5
(all detail there) I will releasee 3.4.1 with the fix he coming weekend.

Very convenient, helps me organize my email. Thunderbird's default interface for configuring filters is a bit clumsy, this is much easier to use and manage.

I use this add-on for 3-4 years. It's great in automatically organizing email on directories in Thunderbird. Works without errors or other problems.

Thanks, developer.

I love this filter tool - it has literally saved hours of my life over the course of just a few weeks. It's easily trained to remove only the e-mails I want to take out of my inbox, and it can save everything in case I want to look at something later. It's powerful, intuitive and well-supported. Axel has done an amazing job here.

Hello everybody

Does this addon let the mail in the inbox (as it is in an other folder). Gmail lets to have several tags by mail and it's what i'm searching for.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Excuse me my english is not very fluent !

I have just read your reply. You did it so fast and it's so useful !
THANK YOU !

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2).

this addon makes it easy to create rules (in Thunderbird these are called filter rules) in order to MOVE emails out of the Inbox into other folders. However you can also use the rules to add TAGS to emails, which may be what you mean. You can have multiple rules that add multiple different tags, while leaving the email in the inbox if you like.

The filter assistant can be configured to only affect tagging - enable the assistant and then tag an email - it will create a rule based on the following step (e.g. filter by sender or subject)

I have used QuickFilters for more than a year and if there was only one filter I could use, QuickFilters would be it. I'm the type of person that receives more than 100 emails per day, far more than I can I possible process in a given day, so filtering is the only way to to keep a handle on the amount of stuff that comes in. Messages get placed into folders that I can skim when I have time, and everything else I just process as needed.

I used Thunderbird Message Filter's from day one, but found them hard to set up. But Quick Filters makes it easy to drag-drop-and-define or merge with a filter. Now I have more than 150 folders that Quickfilter made easy to set up.

If you are an email sorter type, QuickFilters will quickly become your best friend. Strongly recommended.

To be honest, I found quickFilters a little difficult to catch on to because it can do so much - so I sent a support email to Alex. He went out of his way to reply quickly and very explicitly. I am now filtering all the crap I was trying to get rid of. It all just goes directly to Trash. YEEHAW!

I forgot to mention, I sent a donation because it is well worth it.

Functionality is great. But When this addon is enabled, my memory jumps from 500MB to 8GB...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.9).

.. are you sure? quickFilters literally shouldn't take more extra memory above 300kBytes. it does not store the filters (these are already stored in Thunderbird independently from qF) and only adds a little UI for managing / creating and searching. it doesn't store any data structures except for the few settings in the options window.

I'm giving this addon five stars simply for the Copy and Paste buttons!

... if you need real clipboard support (to be able to copy into another instance of Thunderbird) please raise a bug here:

File support is soon to come as well!

Its ok, but it doesn't have THE most important (to me) function.
Need to be able to apply a new and.or existing filter to ALL Email Accounts.
Either by merging to another account (removing the "To: criteria), or by selecting the INBOX (unified inbox) as the folder to filter when creating or editing a filter. I would gladly pay for this filter function.
Also it would be good to be able to select multiple templates when creating filters, such as "From" AND "Subject" not just one or the other.
This addon does not really save very much time, if like myself, you are already proficient at creating the filters. Sorry to bring down the vibe...but

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.8).

Thunderbird, SeaMonkey and Postbox store and manage filters *per account*. This is by design and cannot be changed by a lowly add-on, so I am afraid you are asking for something impossible. Merging filters so they apply to more than one account simply cannot be done under the current filter architecture. So the 2 star rating won't change that or help.

As regards your other feature request, check out this bug:
https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=25989 "Allow creation of Custom Templates"
This feature will allow you to create templates with more complex pre-filled rules. It is much more difficult to explain than to use, please give it a try here: http://i.imgur.com/NEycbEk.png

Also this is not the right place for feature requests; please add them here:
http://quickfilters.mozdev.org/bugs.html

As regards saving time, the main reason qF was initially implemented was to deal with an ever growing folder tree - the autoselect target folder was the biggest pain when it used to force us to scroll through 500+ folders. Also if you have more than 100 filters the search functions I added become more important; give them a try some times. You can right-click any folder in the tree and investigate whether it is targeted by a filter. You can find filters that do the same (duplicate search) and you can search for filters by condition, tag and (reply with) template.

Excellent. I was about to throw my email handler away forever until I found this gem.

Install it, take the tem minutes required to familiarise yourself with it, use it, you will not regret it, particularly if Thunderbird or Fossamail are your primary business email handlers.

It is well worth donating to the programmer.

This addon is done very well and fits into the Thunderbird workflow as it would be built in. I use this very often since I have many folders and accounts to manage. I wonder how I could have done before without this. Thanks very much!

A must have add-on for anyone who receives spam email. Thats everyone of us on this planet. I am now able to create a new filter by drag and dropping the spam into the spam folder and clicking two buttons, about 4 seconds. All future spam email from that domain are automatically sent to the spam folder. Tons of other options as available. Developer is motivated to deliver a good product and the end result shows. I have tried all other email clients but everyone has failed to deliver an effective spam filtration system. Thank god for this addon. Awesome work!

Support this developer! So we can see more improvements.
