So as far as I can tell there is no way to set a hotkey that opens speed dial in the current tab. This is the only thing keeping me from replacing fastdial with speed dial.

Love it. Just upgraded to 3.6b2, even though I can see it says compatible, fiefox says it is not. I miss speeddial and can't install :(

I don't know how anybody can live without speed dial
I have all of my favorites set up on speed dial.
I love it that you can add more blocks when you get all of your original blocks filled.

Looks kind of dorky if you go by the simple screenshot above, but it really is quite powerful when you actually take a test drive. The author is easy to contact and make suggestions.
Great job!

I'm one of those people who have multiple webpages I check on a daily basis. So many that restoring my previous tab sessions every time I open my browser just isn't feasible anymore.

I needed an add-on that was similar to Safari's 'Top Sites', but I love Firefox too much to use any other browser. With Speed Dial, not only did I find it, but this blows it out of the water! So many options. And, yes, you can set up the thumbnails to open in a new tab!

Five stars!

Oh my gosh! I didn't know that it's so powerful! After playing around with it, I discovered that it is much more than just a page with definable visual shortcuts. Actually, due to the possibility to create groups and have them in small subtabs (you need only one FF tab!), it's the fastest way ever to access your most needed bookmarks. You can even set a link to a group, thus navigating visually through your bookmarks. This is so intuitive and much easier than bookmarks toolbar or anything else. Setting up the whole thing needs some work though, in case you want everything very clean and visually perfect. But after you're done, it speeds up your browser experience a lot! Find thumbnails/logos for your Speed Dial links on userlogos.org or use Speed Dial's built-in function to create web page thumbnails, if you want the easy and fast set-up (but less nice-looking). Awesome! Thank you!

I wonder why isn't there the "open in new tab" option in the context menu or at least in the settings? I don't the way those newly 'dialed' websites stealing the focus from the dialing page. For me this is one important feature that should not be absent from any visual bookmarking like this. The moment I noticed the unavailability of this I quickly disabled it. OK, I'm not uninstalling it because I hope in the developer will address this issue in the newer version.

Love this addon, but would love it even more if there was a little space in each dials settings to put in a little note, such as login and passwords. Which could then be saved when exporting dials.

but love it now.

Once you get used to the speeddial, it's really hard to be just satisfied with a single homepage. I'm a very visual person so instead of names, I remember how a site looks, so this is just perfect tool for site recognition. I have 6 panels, with 15 sites each, so this almost serves as a secondary bookmark utility. You can even put a picture URL in the URL entry, so each cell can be made into a "gadget-like" utility, updating whenever the picture changes. I particularly like it for using to see if I have a new mail in my hotmail and gmail acounts, but I also use it for my local weather report, including the air quality graph. No other extension could possible do that.

NOTE: The defaults of the program are meant to work with standard 4:3 screen, so if you have a widescreen you might be a bit put off, but it's very easy to change. Just go to the Advanced Options of Speeddial, then Sizes panel, then under Width Modifier change it to 100% "of the available size". Voila! Now the cells will cover your entire screen.

Great stuff. My only remark is that when right-clicked on a dial, a popup shows a menu. Choosing Edit from this menu gives a "Add dial" window, not "Edit" the one that was clicked. The only way to edit seems to be using the button appearing on the dial's title bar. I guess this is a bug, not a feature.
