This is one of the best thunderbird addons I came accross! Its easy, intuitive and fast. It just works and never ever gave me any trouble. A very fine job!
There is one suggestion that I have though. Sometimes I need to copy (or move) large amounts of local mail to an imap folder. This often fails during the process because the copy function of thunderbird just isnt awesome. At that stage, some of the mails i selected have been copied, others havent and I have to start all over again because there is no way to tell which messages already made it to the server and which havent. The bad thing is that even when moving the messages, Thunderbird first copys all of them and then deletes the source, but only if the copy process was successfull.
Would there be any chance to modify removedupes, so that it can display dupes OR siglets. This would enable one to select all the messages that havent been copied/ duplicated yet. this would make removedupes also the only sync plugin for thunderbird and help out so many people struggeling with this poor TB copy function.This would be something that I am looking for for years and years!

Works pretty well, haven't had any issues yet and removed a ton of duplicates (especially in one of my RSS feeds). The only thing I've found thus far that I don't like is that the it's a little bit of a pain to setup. Perhaps adding a button with a dropdown menu that provides options. Included in that could be an option to scan all folders (since I don't keep all my email in one global folder I have to select the different main folders for each account).
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.5). This user has a previous review of this add-on.You could just select the single 'Account Folder', the parent of the account's main folders (Inbox, Sent, etc.) - that works too.
As for a button - if every extension put its options in a button you would have endless clutter...

Works wonderfully as promised (and fast!) on Thunderbird 2.0.0.24
I like the way you can preview emails before deleting them.
First time using this, so I checked every email selected to see if they were duplicates.
Not a single false positive.

worked great! exactly what I needed! Thank you very very much! The search is very fast, the search result window shows you very clear information to make sure what you will delete is really what you want to delete, and the extra options are very wise. Great

I am switching hosts and since I want to keep all the emails I have so far, I had to switch to POP3 (another TB nightmare). I ran this extension and I think it removed some, but it it left many more duplicates - yes, duplicates, same message.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.5).I often get this complaint. And it's always the case that the messages are just similar, not the same: An extra newline, a few seconds time difference etc. Try using fewer comparison criteria...

Can it be enhanced to compare a specific header? I use it to remove duplicate RSS items and the best would be if it compared the 'website' header

I have been using this addon for quite some time. (One of the mail gateway through which I forward an e-mail
occasional hiccups and send duplicate messages, and thus I need to use addon like this.)
This addon works fine and quite fast.
However, since a few version back, I have noticed strange behavior.
It used to be that if I am looking at the latest messae in a folder, and
if I try to remove the dupes in that foloder only, after the removal of duplication, the
current focus (of the messages, that is) is near the latest message in that folder (module the
deleted message.)
In the current version, the focus is left on a very old message. Thus, I am left in an old message in my folder and
have to scroll down to get to the latest message. (Yes, I keep the latest message at the bottom in my usage.)
This has been noticeable since early summer(? I am not sure). But this pesky behavior is a little
irritating.
Otherwise, I will give a five star :-)

This is a fantastic tool that is really needed - particularly in a busy business environment.
There has been one change in behaviour recently. Running against a dovecot IMAP server with around a couple of hundred folders containing tens of thousands of emails, if we select "Review Search Results Before Deletion" everything works fine (although someone has to be here to press the button). If we un-tick this option, it finds no duplicates whatsoever. Nothing. Nada. I have tried playing around with all the other options but to no avail.
That's about the only failing I have found and it appears to be a newly introduced bug - older versions worked perfectly.
I'll give it 9/10 - it would have got 10/10 except for the minor hiccup.

You did a great job - thanks! The add-on works just fine and very quick for my some hundred mails.
Yet it took me some time to find out (by reading other comments) that I need to remove the checkmark on "skip special folders". Before I did that I tried hard to remove duplicates on my imap account (using special folders) with no success and also no message from the add-on except "Looking for duplicates".
I would prefer that you choose the default as "skip special folders" = NO.
By the way the German translation lacks some strings in "...extensions\{a300a000-5e21-4ee0-a115-9ec8f4eaa92b}\chrome\removedupes.jar\locale\de-DE\removedupes\removedupes-prefs.dtd"

The locale issue is fixed in 0.3.5 which you can download and which will become the released version very very soon.

There's a very important feature you haven't rewritten: preferred unanswered first. Without this, the thread is not indented correctly.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.3).The extension does support this. You can sort the messages in the review dialog according to their headers, with the unanswered being first (or last). Then 'Keep First' does the trick.

I had trouble setting up pop mail for yahoo so I ended up getting yahoo mails sent to both my primary and yahoo pop account in one email client. This gets rid of those pesky duplicates instantly. Thank you!

Great work on this add-on, it worked well. The original did not respect the sent folder option, but this one does. Great options, thanks for that!
