Losing the use of "Custom Address Sidebar" due to Mozilla / Thunderbird's update was a disheartening letdown. Although other Add-ons were similarly lost after the update, Custom Address Sidebar was truly one of my favorites, and a value added productivity enhancement. I am genuinely grateful that it was freely given to the Thunderbird community, and hope that it's author considers updating / salvaging it, if possible, given the new add-on limitations of TB.
PLEASE NOTE: While we all know that along with adults that use and depend on Thunderbird, children, some very young, and possibly immature, have been given permission by their parents to use it as well. PLEASE, parents, if you read this review, teach your children who (cough) possibly through no fault of your own, have grown up with a sense of entitlement, believing that everyone owes them, everything, when they want it, how they want it, free, and NOW! OR ELSE! Please inform them that this developer picked up the ball when the original developer of it's now defunct predecessor dropped that ball. This great add-on was created to fill that void, and given to this community, asking nothing in return for that good deed. That's right, you and your children have been using it for free. Now kids, come on, we both know that you know what free is, and that you expect everything to be given to you that way, because, well, just because you are you. It was sort of a present, and it was given to you without even a hint of the guilt trip your mommy and daddy are going to lay on you when you are still living at home, leeching off them in your 20's and 30's. So, try to be big boys and girls, and learn the following lesson. Leaving 1 star reviews is a GREAT way to make sure that this nice developer never works on this add-on again. It offers them no encouragement or reason to do so. In simple terms that even a child can understand... 1 star tantrums are a no no.

2019年2月10日から急にアドレス帳の表示が従来通りの順番に
ならず、色々と調べてここへ来ました。
「最新版に対応していない」表示されており、少し諦めかけてます。メールは毎日使用しており、このまま不便が続けばOutlookへ移行を考えなければりません。

edit- Well it's now a little over a year later & Thunderbird is now version 78+ so ya, this addon is definitely dead...sigh

Thank you for your work and your adaptation that replaces very well sidebar contacts.
However, if it was possible, I would really appreciate that, as sidebar contacts, the new message window opens with a double click on the contact name ... It would be absolutely perfect! Thanks again.

This addon has one, but extremely significant disadvantage, it works only in new message window. It would be much better and useful to see this addon below accounts and folders list, just like old "Contacts Sidebar" addon.

Great Addon but it were more usefull to search in all Adressbook Fields including the Custom Fields and all other Fields.

I used the Contacts Sidebar of old and was disappointed when it stopped working with newer versions of Thunderbird. Hence I was pleased when I came across Custom Address Sidebar.,
While it is not as conveniently located (you have to open the 'Write' panel rather than view it in the main Inbox view of Thunderbird) it does offer a very useful search facility, which can be configured to readily find a contact from your address list. - Be aware that you may need to enable the sidebar from the View menu, though pressing F9 also toggles the sidebar on or off.
Initially I was expecting the sidebar to appear in my main Inbox view which, as mentioned it does not, and the supplied images in the Add-Ons page didn't provide enough information for this poor English speaker to work out how/where to use or access it.
Remember Inbox> Write> View> select Contacts Sidebar to see it
