This extension has saved my beloved tabs (~200, Tab Groups *was* another great add-on...) more than once during FF crashes and updates. I really hope it gets updated to 57+ (yeah, it happened to me today too - just blank FF after update, thank you Firefox team, that's one of the worst ways to do upgrades).

I've wrote a small Python script for myself to at least extract the URL data from Session Manager files (and optionally open them in the browser right away) - feel free to use it to alleviate your pain, it's open-sourced at https://github.com/alex-ter/ff-sm-tab-extractor.
