It was a shock to see that Thunderbird 38.1.0 no longer had the familiar minus button to hide most headers of a message. No idea how people can use Thunderbird without!
This extension restored the familiar behaviour of versions up to 37, allowing me not to abandon Thunderbird.

well, this addon is a must-have!
are there any chances to cooperate with Gmail Buttons - https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/thunderbird/addon/gmailbuttons/ so it's line can be displayed even with collapsed headers?

Thunderbird 36.0b1 users, the current stable 2.0.9 doesn't work, but you can use the development channel's 2.1.0b3, which can be installed in Tb36.0b1 by fiddling with the xpi's install.rdf

With this extension, I was able to recover valuable real estate that was being wasted by the messages' toolbar. Does its job perfectly!

This extension works fine. But it hides icons for S/MIME reporting about the e-mail (signed, encrypted) even it does not hide ENIGMAIL/PGP information (signed, encrypted). This is not possible to file bug report (the Bugzilla says I'm not approved to file bug against this component).
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior do extra (2.0.8).Sorry but I cannot confirm this (with Thunderbird 33.0 beta and CompactHeader 2.0.9beta2)
Could you please post a bug report with additional information (Thunderbird/CompactHeader versions, screenshots?) to the support forum:

A must have for laptop users. TB should have this as a standard feature!

I can't believe there are no native controls in Thunderbird for this. For anybody working on a non-massive screen (like, say, a mid-range notebook might have) the default header area feels uselessly bloated. This add-on fixes that right up. So simple, but it makes the experience so much better!
I would agree with a previous reviewer - it would be even better if I could choose to remove the header pane entirely. But it's still profoundly useful as-is.

I installed this on TB 17.07. It helps. However, I see no reason for even 1 line that has the subject which is in the pane above? Is there another add on that will completely eliminate the message header?
Also, in the mail tool bar. Why is the folder name in the tab? that waste at least one more line. Is there an add on to eliminate that.
Every line is important on a laptop with a smaller screen - especially when accessing email on a cloud server with RDP.
Thanks. I just moved from Outlook Express to TB because Win7 will not allow OE. Wish I had moved away from M$ a long time ago. Now if only I could move all my clients to Linux so I could get Windows off my computers.

This combines perfectly with the Address Widget Lines add-on to make the best use of small screenspaces in Thunderbird. (I use an Acer Aspire One.)

Great! I may have wished to have a bit more options about what to see and maybe to toggle between standard and compact header, but so far it's really improving the experience with Thunderbird on smaller screens... Except that it seems that the compact header defines a minimum width which will make my window (under ubuntu), when maximized, reach over the end of my screen (on a tiny netbook) - or is there some other addon incompatibility??

Must have addon, but need "Reply All" button
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior do extra (2.0.7). Este utilizador tem uma revisão anterior deste extra. You can right click on the header toolbar and "customize" it: Then you can add or remove buttons. The reply all button is in the default set (click the corresponding button in the customization dialog or add it by drag and drop).

The addon is very nice but the lack os a "Reply All" is something uncomprehensiable. But to me, the worse was the fact that uninstalling the addon didn't make things come back the way they were. This is something terrible becase in the case of no likeing it, I simply can't have my old behavior again.

Thank you very much.
With the 2.07beta3, header background color can be made darker when got the focus.
