I'm giving this 3 stars because when it works, it works brilliantly. But this is generous, because the duplicate contact problem not only gums up the address book, it brings Thunderbird and my whole computer to its knees.

We've been using this for more than a year now, and it works like a charm. Android devices, Gmail webmail usage and Thunderbird.
Only thing missing is support for contact groups in Thunderbird itself, e.g. in Collected Emails etc. but that is hardly the plugin that must provide that feature.

Unusable. It only imported about a third of my contacts from Gmail. The sync options are sort of oddly named as well--Does "read only" means it will not delete or update Gmail contacts? I hoped so, but now it's only academic.

Pretty please urgently fix the duplicates... I have over 20k here and over 20k there of one and the same contact...
Playing around with experimental feats doesnt solve it!

I confirm that this add-on creates duplicates. About 21000 total in my case and between 2-10000/contact. I believe that this caused my Android phone to get so confused that only thing I could do was to reset it back to factory settings. So you are warned.
Before this it worked nicely though. If this specific bug gets fixed (for sure) I'll enable it again.

I'm having the same issue many users have been reporting for years. I added a contact yesterday in Thunderbird. Yesterday evening my android phone got really hot, then the battery died. This morning I found that the new contact had been duplicated more than 20,000 times. My phone had died trying to sync 20,000 contacts. Also, names get randomly dropped from groups, and groups get duplicated, or sometimes deleted. I went back to the previous version, but still the problem is persisting, so today I have deleted the add-on. Too bad :-(

Great Add-On. I'm using it in "Read only" mode and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. I love it.

Good extension, but creates duplicate groups (10-20 pieces) ;( How to turn off or is this a bug? TB 14.0, ubuntu 12.04.1

I had the same problem as "sfchains" with v0.6.40. Changes in the TB address book have not been synchronized with google. So I simply used the v0.6.41b1 from http://hogi.sakura.ne.jp/en/downloadcgi.rhtml?gmcont and this solved the issue :) I'm using TB 14.0 on Xubuntu 12.04.

Installed this addon and linked my google account and all google contacts were created in a new TB address book correctly.
Found a BIG problem that when I update one of the contacts in the TB address book the change is not being reflected in google.

I gave it 4 stars only because I can't give it 3 and a half. Nice add-on. Synced instantaneously, with no duplicates, however:<br>
I sync my Android phone with my Google account. I have A LOT of contacts on my phone in which I do not have e-addresses for and the sync with Google mirrors my Android. This add-on ignored the grouping if a contact has no e-address (I have a group called Clients in which I have 55 entries on my Android/Google. Only 5 have e-addresses. Even though all 55 were synced, only those 5 where put in to the Clients group in Thunderbird's AB.)<br>This would be a great enhancement for a future release. Then I will give it a higher rating.

Currently looking at 20k of the same contact. Deleting them now. Has this issue been resolved? I am a fan except for this :/

After read the bad posts, I wasn't sure to install this plugin, but finally I try it and works fine !

Works pretty good. I have had the duplicate items issue a couple of times with no explanation. The good part is that google adds contacts created in Thunderbird to your "other contacts" folder and does not add them to "my contacts". Therefore, you can go to google and delete all of your "other contacts" and get rid of all the duplicates. There is one major flaw in this process. If you have added other contacts from Thunderbird it will delete those too. I am still using this for a while to see if it can be fixed but at this point it's pretty sketchy. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR CONTACTS!
Also, it doesn't seem to sync with google until you exit and restart the program.

Created 30,000 plus "ghost" contacts in the background, the first symptom was my phone ground to halt, took ages to work out what was going on (ie it was a PC thing and not a problem with the phone) and took ages to delete these so Google Contacts/HTC People started working again. It did not however destroy the original data (My Contacts) so that's a tiny positive. I would certainly not use this software again until its been tested properly.

Wreaked absolute havoc on my contacts list. It not only created thousands of duplicates as otherwise reported, but it deleted a lot of information as well. AVOID.

Great add-on but... a huge bug in some cases i haven't yet understand: thousands of duplicate contacts without possibility of recovery by google menu.

Contacts created within the add-on will not show on Google Contacts. Worthless, I can't believe developers did not notice such a huge bug.
