This addon is very important for me and probably the best one for thunderbird. There is a small problem I have started seeing offlate. Not sure what triggered it, everytime I open Thunderbird, I get the First run assistant Pop-up. Even though I click on "Review changes" or "Apply changes", nothing happens and the pop-up again shows up the next time I open Thunderbird. This is TB 17.0.2 on Ubuntu 12.04.

Edit - Uninstalled and installed it back and the problem seems to have gone.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.5.2).

Is Thunderbird shutting down properly? Which version of the addon are you running? (You may want to upgrade to the latest one.)

The extension looks great but has a serious annoying problem that I have no idea how to remedy.I've read the reviews, I've read the faq's I've not seen this anywhere and I have no desire to open a github account to post an issue or bug. Here is the issue explained and show in a video.http://youtu.be/pRPDIdScbn0The video is unlisted and will only be seen via this thread.

Thank you for the reply.

This is a bug in the Thunderbird code that surfaces badly in Conversations: see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=646225 for all the details (this is the faq item called "a message is grouped with another unrelated conversation"). Unfortunately, there is no fix in sight.

This is one of the addons which should come with thunderbird preinstalled!

This addon is the best TB addon ever, without doubt! If I want to donate some addons someday, this would be first.
Using this addon I can easily track my conversations and realize in response to what email I received/sent this email, without the need to go between Inbox & Sent folders repetitively. It's preferences is also very versatile. For example I don't like its default message body font tweak and I could easily cancel that to original TB font.
Using this addon you can see your threads easily, both in threads pane and in message pane. Plus you can see the thread messages in new tab both as part of the conversation using this addon and separately in the traditional view.

You are a genius. This add-on really gives my Thunderbird the Gmail conversation view. The only issue is that I can't figure how to open the messages in windows instead of tabs (even after I choose "open messages in a new window" in TB options).

In any case, thank-you very much for sharing this.

Hi,

Opening a conversation in a new window is a indeed something that does not work with the current version. It would require a fair bit of work to make it happen; I'm doing this on my free time, which unfortunately means I can't afford to work full-time on this; so unless someone steps up and contributes a patch, there's little chance that opening a conversation in a separate window will work anytime soon, unfortunately.

This is a real cool AddOn! Thank you for creating it!
I used it today for the whole day and won't switch it off again, but there is a show stopper for me: TNEF encoded email attachments are displayed as winmail.dat. The AddOn LookOut (which converts the TNEF format) will not work anymore, when I activate Conversations. Could you please have a look onto this? Thanks.

Hi,

At some point the author of LookOut and I tried to work out something together, but it never really went past preliminary talks. I have a plugin infrastructure that other addons (Enigmail, Lightning) use to interact with me. I would gladly welcome a patch and/or contribution from the LookOut author if the plugin infrastructure doesn't satisfy them!

Great add-on. I can't go back to the original view now. Two suggestions:
- The one thing I miss from the old view is the "detach" option to save and delete attachments in one step.
- With this add-on, reading and deleting emails is slooooow. Hopefully it can be made swifter in future releases.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.5.2).

First item : use right-click to access the detach operation
Second item : unfortunately the underlying subsystem in Thunderbird that this addon relies on has some performance limitations...

If enabled, it's not possible to open messages in a new window (Thunderbird 17, Conversations 2.5.2)

I use it in a production environment, with tons of everydays mail: it is a real life savior! Despite of two annoyances it is perfect!
1. About once a week plugin starts to include a random emails to the threads - it requires just to restart TB.
2. Conversations, starting from 50 mails long - are opens very slow.

But I'm sure i will get better! :)

After few amazing days with this addon, it stopped working, it is not possible to reply to emails AT ALL. when I disable it, the mail gets send without a problem. When it's enabled, it hangs at "delivering mail" and then I get this:
"Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator."

conversations 2.5.2, thunderbird 14, linux mint debian,
please help because your addon is really really useful

edit:
it's a duplicate of a reported bug (having image as a signature): https://github.com/protz/GMail-Conversation-View/issues/644

Can you head over to the bug tracker at https://github.com/protz/GMail-Conversation-View/issues and open an issue there? Thanks, jonathan

Great add-on! Thank you! I have one strange question...How can I display contacts in the new message window (To: or Cc: or Bcc fields) as is shown in your last image above?

This just for the inline reply only. The new message window remains the same, the addon doesn't touch it. However, the addon has a hidden feature (Ctrl-Shift-N) that gives you the possibility of using the inline reply editor for composing a new message, possibly in a tab.

While I have not had a problem with the program for the most part.

There are a few things I noticed one is you don't have the option to format text when you do a reply in the reply window.

I am also noticing that often times it will open a message in a new tab with a single click. The only way I have been able to stop this is to click and hold a message in the list to view it.

Hello! Since today, TC is displayed in English instead of Italian (as it was until yesterday) and I can't revert to Italian.
The only things I did were to run Ccleaner and update Firefox to 16.0
Thank you!

Yes I was a little bit in a hurry, so I released without the translations enabled. I'll release a new version with all the translations soon.

But I miss the TB standard and customizable header, and the TB standard and always on the same place (not in the body) attachment bar. A compose tab with the standart TB compose menu bar would fit well! It's a very helpfull extension, but some changes were not necessary. Thanks anyway for the good job!

Does not do anything in THunderbird 15.0.1. Messages still are not threaded and makes no difference if the extension is enabled or not with all the default options enabled.

Seems the problem is related to the mailing list munging message headers. Makes it almost impossible to follow threads properly.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.4.3).

There's a FAQ over there, see items "messages are not grouped together". https://github.com/protz/GMail-Conversation-View/wiki/faq

Also make sure there are no errors in Tools > Error console.

Excellent plugin, exactly what was required for Thunderbird. Makes it much easier to read the emails.

Great work.

I created an account just to review this add-on because I enjoy it so much. It does have some minor issues that required some small modifications to the way I use Thunderbird, but overall this is a great add-on that provides real functional enhancements.
