Sharing, password protection, expiration dates, Talk meetings, attachment automation, and NC Connector's own VFS provider work without the backend. Additional backend features require an assigned seat. Community mode includes one permanently free seat; a Pro license is required for additional users.
Requirements and notes
Nextcloud 32 or newer (HTTPS); Nextcloud Talk for meetings. Room and resource bookings require a writable Nextcloud CalDAV calendar with server-side scheduling. User and moderator search requires the Nextcloud system address book; one-time password links require the Secrets app. Thunderbird's built-in large-attachment prompt must be disabled to use attachment automation.
Open source and privacy
NC Connector is open source (AGPL-3.0) and does not track users. Credentials stay local in Thunderbird. Email content and files do not pass through an NC Connector proxy; they are exchanged directly between Thunderbird, your Nextcloud, and the storage providers you choose. The interface and share and Talk messages are available in multiple languages.

File sharing
- Share from multiple sources – Combine local files and folders with content from your Nextcloud and insert the link into your email. Existing Nextcloud files are copied on the server; originals remain untouched. Parallel and chunked uploads include progress tracking. Watch demo
- Secure sharing and collaboration – Set passwords, expiration dates, permissions, and notes. Grant upload, edit, and delete permissions to let recipients work together in a shared folder.
- Separate password delivery – With the backend, send passwords in a separate email or through expiring, one-time links using Nextcloud Secrets.
- Automatic attachment sharing – Always share attachments through Nextcloud or do so above a configurable total size. Insert a share-page link or a direct ZIP download link.
- Reliable sending – Automatic password emails go out only after the main message has been confirmed as sent. Unused shares from discarded drafts and Talk rooms from discarded events are cleaned up.
Talk, rooms, and calendar events
- Talk meetings from your calendar – Create and update Talk rooms from Thunderbird events, with the meeting link inserted into the event. Configure passwords, a lobby, users, guests, and moderator delegation. Event changes are synchronized with the Talk room. Watch demo
- Rooms and resources – Filter by building, floor, capacity, equipment, and availability; review the day view and add your selection to an event. Supports Calendar Resource Management and RoomVox (backend required). Watch demo
Connect storage
- Add other storage sources – Include Google Drive, OneDrive, WebDAV, and other compatible sources in a share using the corresponding provider add-ons (backend required).
- Nextcloud as a VFS provider – Give other add-ons read and write access to your Nextcloud through the Thunderbird VFS Toolkit. Each add-on requires your explicit permission, which you can revoke at any time.
For teams and organizations (with backend)
- Managed rollout – Deploy the add-on and configure defaults through Thunderbird Enterprise Policies. Each user signs in with their own Nextcloud account.
- Centrally managed email signatures – HTML templates with logos and personal details from Nextcloud profiles, applied to the matching sender identity. Watch demo
- Group and user settings – Enforce settings or explicitly allow users to change them.
- Custom templates and branding – For shares, password messages, Talk invitations, and email signatures.
- Delegated administration – Without granting full Nextcloud administrator permissions.
