Password Exporter makes easy to get a perfect control about your userid and passwords. It's easy to use, easy to undertand and very easy to save in many standards ways, all yours passwords.
Only the best...

Thank you so much! I was having problems with my profile on one of my computers yesterday, and I could get most other things restored, but I couldn't get my saved passwords restored, so I was hoping I could find a way of exporting them from my profile on another computer and import them into this one, and this extension was exactly what I needed! Worked like a charm! You saved me a lot of time -- I was dreading the prospect of having to re-enter them by hand and needing to constantly check the other computer for ones I'd forgotten! :-D

Does this back up usernames too ? Just checked and it appears to do usernames too.

The install.rdf version information for SeaMonkey in this extension is seriously out-of-date, but I just edited it to bump it from 2.1b1 to 2.9.*, rezipped it as a .xpi file and successfully installed it in SeaMonkey 2.6.1, as I've been doing for more than a year. It appears to function OK with a trial export of the passwords in both XML and CSV file formats. If you're a SeaMonkey user, right-click on the "Add to SeaMonkey" button and save the file locally so you can unzip it and doctor it with a text editor such as Notepad or gedit. The developer was nice enough to clearly comment the sections in install.rdf to easily identify the appropriate one for SeaMonkey. Since SeaMonkey changed the database format in release 2, it's this tool or nothing for backing up and restoring restored passwords, as far as I know. I'd have given it 5 stars if the install.rdf file had been current for SeaMonkey.
Even if this tool were to stop working for password import, it is extremely useful to be able to save URLs and passwords to a human-readable format such as CSV and store a backup or print them out, in case the worst happens.

Works great. Just installed in Firefox 9 and have no problems. In fact, I'm just coming back to Firefox after having used Opera for the last year. In my efforts to migrate my settings from Opera to Firefox I had to use a 3rd party utility in order to export my saved passwords from Opera but, the Password Exporter was not able to import the XML created by the utility. I quickly whipped up a simple converter utility, ran my XML file through it and popped out a file that Password Exporter read without any problems at all. Have to say, I don't think this would have been so simple to do if this extension wasn't around. 5 stars to the author!

Useless on 8.0 -- 100% fail rate on import even on its own exported files. Update or specifically state old versions only.
Sooo what can we use?? I desperately need to import a CSV of passwords and can not currently.... help!

I have used this program since before version 6.0 and each time I was able to import just know I did an import and got all 146 of my passwords I don;t know why people are saying its old and doesn't work anymore or are having import problems. It could be they way they exported the passwords or the file got corrupted, but I just redid my whole system upgraded to 8 and imported all my passwords with no problems I highly recommend this program I love it

moved the pw file from ff 8 on a p2 367mhz 320mb ram(xp he sp2)
to ff 8.0.1 amd 3000+ 1.81ghz 448mb ram (xp he sp2)
no real problems but it only installed 59/63 ? but maybe
because the code closed before the 'counter' stopped (before the total was tallied?)
way easier than copy and paste! exported it to the new 'puter
via the network

If you have even a remotely new version of Firefox, don't waste your time with this because it won't work. This is a very old add-on that stopped working long ago. My version of Firefox is 8.0.1. I had exported my password list on my old computer and wanted to import it to my new computer but I'm sh**t out of luck.

I was able to export the password file (.csv) from my work computer, but when I try to import it to my home computer, the Import/Export Passwords dialog box doesn't do anything -- there's no import progress showing, and the only thing I can do is to click "Cancel Import". Using Firefox 8; so far usefulness of this add-on = 0

Was a brilliant add-on but doesn't work anymore. Every time when I try to import a file containing passwords I get "XML parsing error" First noticed that when updated to Firefox 7. The same thing with Firefox 8. I also tried to import a file generated a minute ago - the same error.

This is an excellent add-on! A definite lifesaver!
Btw, there is a possible bug for saved urls that *do not* have the "http..." prefix: All host urls are correctly exported, but when importing them, the add-on adds the "http..." prefix without any warning/message.
e.g.
For Gmail Manager users that save their account details in Firefox, this causes the host url:
entry host="longfocus.gmanager.account"
to become
entry host="http://longfocus.gmanager.account" after import, which makes it unusable.
Other than that, it's a great add-on!

I have found that the add-on cannot handle the CSV with the password contain the comma (",") when importing. Because the comma is also the separator character of CSV file.
Can anyone fix this issue for us?

It is simple, easy, and never seems to have any challenges.
Do yourself a favor and use two good secure passwords you like and are type-able for the master password!
